Seth, After reviewing the project with Rebecca Haney, I have the following comments. Cobble is defined as a rounded or partly rounded fragment of rock 3 to 10 inches in diameter. Your design proposes cobble at the larger end of that range. To be in compliance with the performance standards for Coastal Beach, cobble of a compatible size with the existing beach would need to be used. Provide sufficient documentation on the presence of cobbles and their sizes in the Coastal Beach/Coastal Dune system to be in compliance with 310 CMR 10.27(5). The use of fiber rolls on the dune is inconsistent with 310 CMR 10.28(3) (a) and (d). Alternatives such as increasing the volume of dune nourishment with plantings should be considered. Andrew R. If it is helpful, we may be able to locate a recording of that hearing where I believe Paul summarized the support given by Jim regarding the cobble reinforced marsh.
