HomeMy WebLinkAbout5019 228 Route 28 Letter of Opposition 24 Received 05.26.23Fallon, Dolores Subject: 5019 - 228 Route 28 From: Shelby Forsthuber Sent: Thursday, May 25, 2023 5:58 PM To: Fallon, Dolores Subject: Dear Ms. Fallon, RECEIVED MAY 26 2023 8op, r,r> r- PEALS was notified today by our neighbor residing on a private road (9 Ken's Way) directly across from the Tasty Buffet vacant lot. They informed us about the proposal to build an outdoor race track in the old lot. My family and I strongly oppose this plan for multiple reasons, primarily the noise and additional traffic dangers that will be posed. Understanding that this letter may be too late as the meeting is scheduled for tonight. 1 NOISE: 8 gas powered go carts at a time running 12 hours a day would be torture for the residents of this area. Also, I think the businesses would suffer as well. Tourists who come to W Yarmouth want the peace and enjoyment of being outside relaxing without 70-75 decibels of noise per race cart all day long and into the night. This proposal is without merit and would add nothing to our local community. Route 28 is noisy as it is, but hearing the sounds of Ambulances, Fire Trucks, and Police Cars throughout the day is fine by me. We feel protected knowing our first responders are on the job trying to save a life. We're not interested in the sounds of gas powered go carts, described as "like a continuous lawnmower" 12 hours a day. 2 AIR & LIGHT POLLUTION: It is unbelievable that in the current "GREEN" environment of today, where we are all concerned about Emissions and Air Quality, that this proposal would ever be considered. Gas fumes alone are noxious! But the damage to our air quality and the effect it would have on our wildlife is very concerning. This area is surrounded by wetlands and should be protected from harm in any way. This proposal would be harmful to residents and our wildlife. 3 SAFETY & TRAFFIC CONTROL: Additional traffic of cars trying to pull in or out of the "racetrack" only bogs down and slows an already heavy traffic route. With proposed parking for over 30 cars; maneuvering vehicles & people causes unnecessary SAFETY concerns. Traffic is already like a parking lot on Rte 28 from Memorial Day through Labor Day. I oppose this type of business operating on Rte 28, there must be other locations for something like this, although there are 3 go cart raceways already, (S Yarmouth, Harwich & Dennis). Thank you for listening to the local residents, as we are all part of this community. Sincerely, Shelby and Jenna Forsthuber
