FOUNDATIONS
CAST -IN -PLACE (CIP) CONCRETE
THE DRAWING REPRESENT CONSTRUCTION IN SCALE BUT DO NOT
"SCALE"
DRAWINGS TO OBTAIN MISSING INFORMATION OR TO INTERPRET ANY
INFORMATION NOT SPECIFICALLY DIMENSIONED FOR EXACT DETAILING,
FABRICATION OR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES. CONTACT THE DESIGN
ENGINEER FOR ANY REQUIRED MISSING DIMENSIONS.
THE DESIGN WAS COMPLETED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CURRENT
EDITION OF THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE BUILDING CODE (MA -CODE)
INCLUDING ALL RELATED PROVISIONS AND AMENDMENT'S.
ALL WORK SHALL COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE
MASSACHUSETTS STATE BUILDING CODE (MA -CODE) AND ALL OTHER
APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL CODE, ORDINANCE AND/OR
REGULATION RELATED TO THE WORK SHOWN ON THESE DRAWINGS.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL PERMITS FROM THE BUILDING
DEPARTMENT PRIOR TO THE START OF WORK.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS IN THE
FIELD
PRIOR TO COMMENCING WORK VERIFY AND CONFIRM ALL DIMENSIONS,
ELEVATIONS AND LOCATIONS OF EXISTING BUILDINGS AND OTHER
STRUCTURES PRIOR COMMENCING THE WORK. DISCREPANCIES SHALL
BE
REPORTED TO THE DESIGN ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY, BEFORE
PROCEEDING.
THE CONTRACTOR ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCURATE COORDINATION
OF
ALL RELATED PROJECT DRAWINGS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO
ARCHITECTURAL, STRUCTURAL, CIVIL AND UTILITIES DRAWINGS. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DETAILS, DIMENSIONS AND SYSTEMS
PRIOR WORK OR ORDERING ANY ITEM AND COORDINATE WITH THE
ARCHITECT OR THE RELATED ENGINEER DO NOT COMMENCE WORK
UNTIL CONDITION IS RESOLVED AND MODIFICATION IF NEEDED IS
APPROVED. ENGINEER SHALL BE NOTIFIED OF ANY DISCREPANCIES
THAT
MAY EXIST PRIOR TO COMMENCING THE WORK.
EXISTING CONSTRUCTION AND DIMENSIONS SHOWN ON THIS DRAWING
ARE BASED ON INFORMATION PROVIDED BY OTHERS. THE DESIGN
ENGINEER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCURACY OF THE
INFORMATION. DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THIS DRAWING AND THOSE OF
OTHER DISCIPLINES SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE
ENGINEER PRIOR COMMENCING THE WORK. NOTIFY THE DESIGN
ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY OF ANY ISSUE INTERFERING WITH THE
EXECUTION OF THE WORK SHOWN ON THIS DRAWING PRIOR TO
COMMENCING THE CONSTRUCTION.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL TEMPORARY SHORING AND
BRACING REQUIRED FOR PLUMPNESS, STRUCTURAL STABILITY AND
SAFETY WHENEVER REQUIRED TO SUPPORT LOADS AS MAY BE IMPOSED
UPON THE STRUCTURE AND ITS COMPONENTS DURING CONSTRUCTION.
CONTRACTOR IS TO DETERMINE PROPERTY LINES AND SECURE
ADJACENT
PROPERTY OWNER'S CONSENT IF WORK EXTENDS BEYOND BUILDING'S
PROPERTY LINE AS REQUIRED BY THE MA -CODE.
LEAVE NO HOLES UNPROTECTED OVERNIGHT OR OVER WEEKENDS OR
HOLIDAYS. INSPECT AND SECURE THE WORK AREA. REMOVE POTENTIAL
HAZARDS AND COMPLY WITH ALL PROVISIONS OF FEDERAL, STATE AND
LOCAL ORDINANCES INCLUDING ALL OSHA REGULATIONS.
PROVIDE STABLE AND SAFE SLOPES FOR ALL EXCAVATIONS IN
ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE OSHA REQUIREMENTS. PROVIDE
ADEQUATE TRENCH SHORING AND OTHER PERSONNEL PROTECTION IN
ACCORDANCE WITH OSHA REQUIREMENTS DURING THE WORK.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE
SAFETY
OF ADJACENT STRUCTURES, PROPERTY, HIS WORKMEN, AND THE
PUBLIC,
AS AFFECTED BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT.
THESE DRAWINGS ARE INTENDED TO BE USED ONLY BY EXPERIENCED
CONTRACTOR WITH KNOWLEDGE ON THIS TYPE OF WORK.
CONTRACTOR
SHALL UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITIES OF THE PROJECT AND THE
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE. THE CONTRACTOR ASSUMES TOTAL
RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY CONSEQUENCE OF THAT ACTION.
1. THE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR 2,000 PSF A

(ACI-315); GUIDE TO CONCRETE FLOOR AND SLAB CONSTRUCTION
AND/OR
(ACI-302); STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR DEFORMED AND PLAIN
FOUNDATION WALLS SHALL BE PLACED IN UNIFORM
CARBON STEEL BARS FOR CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT (ASTM A615);
HORIZONTAL
AND APPLICABLE LOCAL CODE.
LIFTS HAVING A MAXIMUM LOOSE THICKNESS OF 9-INCHES AND
COMPACTED TO AT LEAST 95% OF MAXIMUM STANDARD DRY
2. ALL CONCRETE SHALL BE CONTROLLED CONCRETE, MIXED AND PLACED
DENSITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM D1557, UNLESS
UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN APPROVED CONCRETE TESTING
OTHERWISE
AGENCY. CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR
INDICATED OR SPECIFIED.
DESIGN OF CONCRETE MIXES AND FOR MAINTAINING STRENGTH AND
PROPER SLUMP DURING CONSTRUCTION.
3. LOOSE, SOFT, WET, FROZEN, OR OTHERWISE UNSUITABLE SOBS
SHOULD EITHER BE RE -COMPACTED OR OVER -EXCAVATED TO A

OR WALLS SHALL BE THE SAME SIZE AND NUMBER AS
REINFORCEMENT IN PIERS, COLUMNS, BUTTRESSES OR WALLS
ABOVE, EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE SHOWN.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE CONTINUOUS DRAINAGE BY
MECHANICAL METHODS TO CONTROL SURFACE AND
UNDERGROUND WATER, AS REQUIRED DURING CONSTRUCTION.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE THAT GROUND WATER LEVELS
UNDER
ADJACENT STRUCTURES AND PROPERTIES ARE NOT ALTERED.
8. ALL FOUNDATION UNITS (PIERS) SHALL BE CENTERED SUPPORT
MEMBERS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON PLANS.
9. ALL BEARING MATERIALS SHALL BE INSPECTED BY THE
GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER PRIOR EXECUTION AS REQUIRED BY
CODE.
10. BOTTOM OF ALL EXTERIOR FOOTINGS SHALL BEAR A
MIND" OF
4'-0" BELOW FINAL FINISHED GRADE FOR FROST PROTECTION.
11. FOUNDATION WALLS THAT RETAIN EARTH SHALL BE BRACED
AGAINST BACKFILLLING PRESSURES UNTIL FLOOR SLABS AT TOP
BOTTOM ARE IN PLACE
12. WHERE FOUNDATION WALLS ARE TO HAVE EARTH PLACED
ON EACH
SIDE, PLACE FILL SIMULTANEOUSLY SO AS TO MAINTAIN A
COMMON ELEVATION ON EACH SIDE OF THE WALL.
13. ALL FOOTING EXCAVATIONS ARE TO BE FINISHED BY HAND
14. PROTECT IN -PLACE FOUNDATIONS, SLABS AND ADJACENT
STRUCTURES, NEW CONSTRUCTION, STREET UTILITIES FROM

PENETRATION OR DAMAGE FROM CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

15. SLAB ON GRADE SHALL BEAR DIRECTLY ON A MIN. 12" THICK
LAYER
OF COMPACTED STRUCTURAL FILL, OR 6" THICK LAYER OF

STONE, PLACED ABOVE PROOF -ROLLED UNDISTURBED NATURAL
SOIL.. IF BEDROCK IS ENCOUNTERED, IT SHOULD BE EXCAVATED
A
MIN. OF 12" BELOW THE BOTTOM OF PROPOSED FOOTING. LOOSE
ROCK PIECES SHOULD BE REMOVED WITHIN THE FOOTING
BEARING
ZONE, AND OPEN BEDROCK JOINTS SHOULD BE CHOKED WITH
CRUSHED STONE OR FILLED WITH CONCRETE PRIOR TO PLACING
THE SOIL CUSHION.
4. ALL CONCRETE EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER OR POSSIBLE FREEZETHAW
ACTION SHALL CONTAIN AIR -ENTRAINING ADMIXTURE WITH 6 % (tl%)
AT POINT OF DELIVERY.
5. CONCRETE MAY CONTAIN A WATER REDUCING, PLASTICIZING OR ANY
APPROVED ADMIXTURE. THE MAXIMUM WATER CEMENT RATIO OF
ALL CONCRETE SHALL BE 0.5 (UN.O.).
6. NO CALCIUM CHLORIDE SHALL BE USED IN ANY CONCRETE
7. CONCRETE COVER PROTECTION FOR REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE AT

9. NO BARS SHALL BE CUT OR OMITTED IN THE FIELD BECAUSE OF
SLEEVES, DUCT OPENINGS OR RECESSES. BARS MAY BE ADJUSTED
WITHOUT CHANGE IN LEVEL.
10.NO CHASES, RECESSES, OPENINGS OR SLEEVES SHALL BE INSTALLED IN
CONCRETE WITHOUT APPROVAL OF THE DESIGN ENGINEER
I LKEYS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 2"A" BEVELED SIDES

TOLERANCE LIMITS OF ACI 117.
14.REINFORCING BAR SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM A615 GRADE 60 UNLESS
OTHERWISE INDICATED ON THIS DRAWINGS.
15. WELDED WIRE FABRIC (W WF) SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM A1064 WITH
A M NIMUM ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH OF 10,000-PSI. _
