Dear Zoning Board of Appeals:
RECEIVED
J U N 20 2023
YA RZ AOUTH
BOARD OF APPEALS
I am a resident in Colonial Acres. I am against the proposed go-kart facility to be located at 228 Rte. 28. The main reason
is the noise pollution that will be added to the surrounding area, including down the corridor of Mill Creek.
The petitioner's spokesman said a go-kart generates 70 decibels. A simple Google search found this information: "A
single go-kart usually produces anywhere from 80 to 90 decibels at a 25-foot range, according to Tres Blomberg, director
of the Noise Pollution Clearinghouse". A vacuum is 75 decibels. Imagine hearing a vacuum run for hours, day after day.
It makes no sense to allow a go-kart facility within 150 feet of homes on Ken's Way and other nearby homes. The harm
that it will cause to the hotels, restaurants and neighborhoods will impact thousands of people over time. Yarmouth is
hardly a recreation desert. This facility, with 54 parking spaces, has the potential to create another traffic bottleneck and
high accident area, like the one that exists around the inflatable park.
The town of Yarmouth does so many things right, like the creation of Chase Brook Park and Mill Creek Park. Why put a
business that creates inescapable noise near these natural areas?
The fact that this proposal was brought before the town without a professional sound analysis is telling. During the May
25th meeting, Attorney Christopher Senie spoke on behalf of his clients who are opposing the go-kart facility. They felt
strongly enough to retain Counsel. I found it interesting that the Petitioner said of Attorney Christopher Senie's research,
"I'd be willing to take that information from him".
How many of our valued tourists will remember their go-kart ride, and how many tourists and residents will remember
the additional noise and traffic?
Respectfully,
Christine Nougeim
