HomeMy WebLinkAbout5019 228 Route 28 Letter of Opposition 28 Received 06.22.23TO: The Town of Yarmouth Zoning Board of Appeals RE: Petition 5019 — Route 28 BATE: June 16, 2023 RECEIVED JUN 22 2023 YARMOUTH BOARD OF APPEALS I would like to oppose the proposed go-cart venue being discussed according to Petition 5019 for several reasons. 1. This section of Route 28 is already very congested with traffic often bumper -to -bumper into Hyannis. It is difficult to exit from Standish Way onto Route 28 as it is and such a venue will only add to the delay as cars stop to turn from either side into its parking area. 2. This is amain route to the hospital and, with the narrow width of the road, no pull -over areas and the size of today's larger cars and trucks, will make it even more difficult for ambulance and emergency vehicles to navigate. Plus, with the addition of electric and standard bikes, scooters and other recreational vehicles using the road, more traffic could result in higher risk for accidents. 3. Increased traffic will increase the amount of air pollution from cars idling in traffic and the carts themselves. 4. Anticipated noise from the go-carts and attendees will carry across the street, ruining the peaceful use of the two small public parks on the opposite side of the road, further ruining the purpose for which they were created. I also feel that noise will flow down toward our neighborhoods off of Standish already dealing with increased air traffic from private and commercial planes from early in the morning and throughout the night. 5. Local nesting ospreys will also be disturbed as well as the other wildlife living in Mill Creek/Colonial Acres area. 6. This noise from the venue, anticipated long hours of operation and lights will also impact the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods, those dining in outdoor locations and relaxing in nearby hotels and motels. 7_ This seems like avenue more suited to a large open space such as the back parking area of the Cape Cod Mall or Kmart shopping plaza than near a small neighborhood area. 8. There already is a go-cart location further down on Route 28 close to the Stop and Shop and a second one seems redundant. 9. Also with today's climate change issues, no venues should be cutting trees for something like a commercial go-cart entity. Many people decide to live, retire or visit Cape Cod for its beauty and peacefulness. I don't see how adding something like a place to race go-carts will enhance Yarmouth, or the neighborhoods surrounding it. I ask that you oppose letting this endeavor move forward and, instead, ask the landowner to find a utilization of the property which better enhances the Town of Yarmouth. Thank you for your time and consideration of my comments. C Mary M. Kocsis 66 Tanglewood Drive West Yarmouth, MA
