Hi Lisa,
My wife and I would like to make some much -needed repairs/improvements to our home at 99 Route 6A in Yarmouth
Port. Though it was built in 1984 (the only one on Captain's Mile that is not a century+ old?), it is in the sweet spot of
the historic district. Other than being comparatively newer than our neighbors, another difference is that our house is at
least 100 yards from Route 6A, and even the front is not visible from 6A. The changes we'd like to make are at the rear of
the (rouse (southern exposure), which is extremely private. Only one neighbor can seethe property from their
home. That view is over their pool fence and is restricted to one 2°1 floor window.
What we'd like to do:
1— The deck is wood, rotting and in need of repair. Other than squaring off one corner, this is a straight replacement of
the surface boards. We are planning to use Trex decking instead of wood and will build on the existing frame;
supplementing any aging boards with weather resistant boards'sistered' up against the original frame.
2 — The parts of our project that require the most attention from the committee would be replacing 3 sliding glass doors
which abut the deck. Each doorway utilizes very old and deteriorated aluminum frame sliding glass doors. The seal has
broken on 3 of the 6 door panels, and they gather condensation inside the panes of glass. We'd like to replace the 3
entryways in the following manner with black frame Anderson A -Series products:
• Kitchen slider — Replace with one single-entry door with 2-over-2 grilles, adjacent to a single double -hung
window with 2-over-1 grilles over a newly framed wall with cedar shakes to match the existing exterior.
• Livingroom slider— Replace with 3 contiguous double -hung windows with 2-over-1 grilles in each over a similar
newly framed solid wall with cedar shakes to match the existing exterior.
• Bedroom slider — Replace with two French doors with 2-over-2 grilles and screen doors.
The kitchen door is a particular problem for us right now as the frame is broken, and there are open gaps in the glass
which causes heating/cooling issues and provides entry points for bugs. At this point, we cannot even open the door
since it will not close flush to the frame like it is supposed to. We'd like to get started absolutely as soon as possible since
delivery times on the windows is 7-8 weeks and the doors are 11-12 weeks.
What is the best way to get the ball rolling on this project? i have the materials quotes from Fairview Millwork if that
would help and, of course, I can provide pictures of the view from 6a, our neighbor's house and the existing sliders and
deck. We'd be using Pete Appleton for the construction work.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
