We, the residents ofthe Tall Pines Drive and Many Oaks Circle neighborhood are concerned
with Petition 5040 seeking a variance to allow psychotherapy sessions to be conducted at 6 Tall
Pines Drive as it relates to the safety and security of the residents of the neighborhood.
Many people think of counseling therapy and psychotherapy as being very similar.
Psychotherapy is a longer-term treatment focusing on gaining more insight into chronic
problems and emotional issues. Psychotherapists work with people with an extensive
spectrum of mental health issues, and potentially with aberrant behavioral issues as well.
Psychotherapy is used in the treatment of chronic or recurrent mental health conditions over
the medium and long term.
','Je as a group do not feel that our neighborhood is the appropriate setting to provide
psychotherapy.

We are a neighborhood group concerned with the upcoming petition at 5 Tall Pines Drive, Yarmouth
Port, Massachusetts.
We collectively have concerns about bringing people with an extensive spectrum of mental health issues
into the neighborhood.
We collectively have concerns that, should this variance be granted for "one-on-one" psychotherapy
sessions, that subsequent variances may be granted for "group" psychotherapy sessions using the initial
variance as precedence.
We collectively oppose the request for a variance.
Once the door is opened, who will prevent expansion of variances, and with it, in this case, bringing
more people with maladaptive behavior issues into our neighborhood?
This board has shown a preference in the past to diminish the voices of neighbors who wish to maintain
civil relationships with each other by submitting 'anonymous' remarks to the board. Reference Petition
4965, where the board decision acknowledge "Unfortunotely, this sort of ononymous correspondence
hos o lessened volue due to the foct no one hos identiJied themselves os being the outhor. " ... and that is
rather unfortunate.
So, in an effort to have our full voices recognized and heard, and likely in detriment to neighborhood
civility, we each affix our signature to this letter.
