Seagull Beach Weekly Report
As of 07/28/2023
Monitors: Grayson Harlow and Holly Pearson
Piping Plover Activity:
• No activity has been observed during the past week
Least Tern Activity
• No activity has been observed during the past week.
Fencing Maintenance and Activity:
• We removed the large section of fencing just to the east of the entrance, where no nesting ac-
tivity has been seen for some time. We also reduced the fencing on the west side.
Management Concerns:
• Staging shorebirds of other species are beginning to show and utilize the habitat for rest and for-
aging.
• There were many incursions into the fencing during the past week, including footprints leading
from the parking lot through two of the closed entrances to the beach.
• The areas within fencing have grown up with shrubs. We have observed both PIPL and LETE
chicks using these shrubs for shade during nesting, so these may provide refuge for staging birds
at this site as well.
