MONITORING REPORT - ANNUAL
August 31, 2023
Project Address: 35 Aunt Dorahs Lane
DEP File #: SE83-2242
Date of Issuance: August 25, 2020
Report: #1 (2023)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project, located at 35 Aunt Dorahs Lane, includes repairs to a coir fiber roll array and replanting of a salt
marsh. The original salt marsh restoration proposed to restore approximately 1,700 square feet of salt marsh in
response to an Enforcement Order for the property. The Enforcement Order, dated 11/27/2019 detailed several
violations. The original salt marsh restoration was completed as two separate areas of salt marsh totaling 1,700
square feet of restored marsh, however upon review by the Yarmouth Conservation Commission, the restoration
was deemed unsatisfactory for compliance with the Enforcement Order, and Wilkinson Ecological Design (WED)
was contracted to perform repairs to the salt marsh to obtain compliance. The repairs were completed in June of
2023 and the Enforcement Order was revised on 7/25/23 to require three (3) post-repair monitoring reports in
Fall of 2023, 2024, and 2025.
ACTIVITIES TO DATE:
2023 Summer – Fall
• Completed initial salt marsh repairs included removal of failing coir fiber rolls, reinstallation of new coir fiber
rolls, removal of failing coir blanket, and reinstallation of new coir blanket and composite erosion control
blanket.
• Completed re-planting of salt marsh with Saltmeadow Cordgrass (spartina patens) and Seashore Saltgrass
(distichlis spicata) plugs.
• Conducted site visit for 2023 Fall Post-Repair Monitoring Report.
PROJECT CONDITIONS:
The site was visited on August 30th, 2023 for the first year of monitoring. At the time of the site visit, the repaired
coir fiber rolls, coir blankets, and erosion control blankets were all stable. The marsh area behind the coir fiber rolls
was also stable and the planted marsh grasses were healthy and growing quickly. Signs of sand deposition were
present throughout the salt marsh area, especially in the eastern marsh. In the coming years the marsh grasses are
expected to continue to expand and colonize the area, providing further stability and energy dissipation.
2024 ANTICIPATED ACTIVITIES:
• Conduct 2024 Fall Monitoring prior to October 31, 2024.
