HomeMy WebLinkAboutEagle Project Presentation 9.20.23Syrjala Conservation Bridge Repairs and Extensions By Matthew Ellis Overall Plan My Plan is to repair and extend some of the hiking bridges on the trail. I will have the support of volunteers and scouts to assist with this project. There are muddy spots at the base of several bridges. Those areas will be extended to cover the muddy areas. The extensions on the bridges will be made the same as the rest of the bridge. We will also replace any damaged wood on the existing structures . Why My goal for this project is to have a dry and safe trail for people to walk. Walking around the muddy spots could kill vegetation and cause potential erosion. The wet areas could possibly grow larger and create a swamp if not taken care of. How The natural resources department has agreed to supply the majority of the supplies. I have a sponsor that has agreed to help provide additional supplies if needed. My scouts and I will extend and repair the bridges that need it. The extensions and repairs will be made with the same materials and build of the pre existing bridges. The planks on the top of the bridge and the frames are made with 2x12s and the posts holding them to the ground are 6x6s. We are going to leave the trail better than we found it, nothing from the construction is going to be left behind. Overall Impact This project will make the trail more enjoyable for hikers. I hope to help with the conservation of this land by protecting the vegetation and keeping the land entact.
