Dear Mr. Grylls:
We live at 37 Church Street, Yarmouth Port, across from the Carter property at
No. 38. A badly deteriorated old barn on the Carter place was scheduled for
demolition last year. That was held up, however, by the intervention of some
people who wanted to preserve the barn for its historic value. They made
their case at a Town Meeting, in October I believe, which I attended. Six
months' postponement in the demolition was granted at that meeting, so that

the preservationists could organize support for their effort. I have no
knowledge of what they did after that—I never heard from them nor have any
neighbors whom I've contacted.
The barn was fenced around for safety and in preparation for demolition.
During the postponement it continued to decay, the roof fell partly in some
time ago. Just recently, on April Fool's Day, it collapsed completely along
with the east and south walls (picture above).
The 6 months should be up about now. In any case, any hope for
"preservation" is clearly lost. I'm sure our neighbors would join me in urging
the Town to reinstate whatever demolition order was in effect last fall.
Yours truly,
