Grass clippings, leaves, branches, and other yard waste are `natural', but they may not be disposed of
in natural areas within 100 feet of a wetland or within wetlands themselves. Dumped yard waste can
damage or destroy habitat and the underlying vegetation, prohibiting new vegetation from growing.
Such activity is a violation of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, G.L. c.131 §40 and its
regulations at 310 CMR 10.00 and/or the Town of Yarmouth Wetland By-law Chapter 143 and its
regulations and can be subject to daily fines.
Yarmouth residents may bring their yard waste to the transfer station during normal business hours.
Thank you for your cooperation in protecting the wetland resources in the Town of Yarmouth.
