Hi Lisa,
I looked at these quickly -- I typically provide detailed comments only when the Historical Commission
requests it and shares the plans with me in advance.
The Yarmouth Historical Commission members are the ones to determine whether the project should be
referred to the Cape Cod Commission for DRI review -- if they think the proposed changes would alter key
character -defining features of the historic building. I can't speak to their opinions, but Commission staff will
always recommend a clear distinction between the historic structure and any new additions (even when
adding to the rear). The addition should be designed to be less prominent than the original building. In this
case, preserving the existing gable roof form and designing a slightly lower ridge height over the new addition
would better preserve the form of the original structure. If dormers are needed to increase second floor
space under the existing roof form, the dormers should be designed as insets within the original roof plane,
rather than changing the entire roof slope.
I hope that is helpful.
Take care,
Sarah
