Subject: Pius X Church request
I have spent some time thinking about this and this is what I have come to:
I think that Deacon Akin was woefully unprepared for yesterday's meeting. He expected to tell us what kind of
social services the church offered, thus we would see how valuable it is to the community. However true that
might be, I believe he needs to prove to us that it is in some way historically significant. Toward that goal I think
he should:
1. provide us with church records of Justice Scalia's marriage there and indicate if the church is going to set a
plaque of that event. Also, a bit of backstory on why Scalia was married here might be helpful should any public
information be available.
2. provide us with diocesan records or those from the chancery which indicate reasons for the creation of a new
parish church, what the thinking was at that time.
Those are the only things I can think of that we might work with to grant historically significant status. I also
think a brief site visit might be in order. I am just not that familiar with those buildings. I'd like to give him what
he wants but so far he's not proven the case --to me at least.
Thoughts on this? More ideas?
Thanks, Jan
