RE: Renovation Request — 205 Old Main St, South Yarmouth, MA 02664
Dear Mr. Davis -
Thank you for meeting with the Yarmouth Historical Commission on November 16, 2017 to discuss the
renovation plans for the Amos Baker House located at 205 Old Main Street. Prior to this meeting, the
members were provided with background/historical information regarding the structure and appreciated the
opportunity to discuss with you the proposed renovations which include:
• Lifting the house to install new foundation with full basement
• Remove and replace floor assembly
• Remove center chimney (unable to lift house and keep chimney intact)
• Remove exterior chimney on west elevation (not original to the house)
• Remove and replace all cedar shingles
• Install access ramp, stairs and railings to meet ADA standards on south elevation
• Remove and replace bulkhead
After discussing the plans at length, with a quorum present, the Yarmouth Historical Commission
unanimously agreed that these alterations would not jeopardize its status as a contributing structure in the
South Yarmouth / Bass River Historic District, a National Register Historic District. You are therefore,
free to pursue the renovations as proposed. A copy of this letter will be provided to the Yarmouth Building
Department and the Community Preservation Committee.
Also as discussed, the Commission recommends that a plaque be attached to the building indicating the
year it was originally built which is circa 1790.
The Commission would like to express their appreciation to St. David's Church for taking the initiative to
pursue the preservation of this historic building and we have the utmost confidence that with you at the
helm, this project is in good hands.
Please don't hesitate to contact Beth Vozella, YHC Office Administrator at 508-390-2231 with any
questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Julie Mockabee, Chairman of the Yarmouth Historical Commission
