RESTORATION PLANTING PLAN | JULY 3, 2018 RVSD AUGUST 27, 2018
LUCEY RESIDENCE| 44 STUDLEY ROAD, YARMOUTH, MA
• Site Plan provided by Down Cape Engineering, Inc dated August 14, 2018. Wetland Delineation by BlueFlax Design
LLC.
• The slope on either side of the bluestone steps has been stabilized with 100 percent biodegradable coconut-straw
erosion control blanket and seeded with a native grass and wildflower mix (June 28, 2018).
• The retaining wall will be completed at the top of the slope at the central portion where cinderblock risers are currently
located. The concrete footing will be left in place to support the finished retaining wall, the top row of cinderblock steps
will be demolished and removed. The area will be filled, graded and seeded.
• Bluestone slabs steps will be removed. The area will be filled, regraded ,and stabilized with 100 percent biodegradable
erosion control blanketing and seeded with a native grass and wildflower mix.
• The total restoration area includes approximately 2,330 square feet (1,800 sq ft on the slope and just over 530 sq ft of
vegetative buffer above the retaining wall).
• A vegetated strip will extend into the currently eroded slope to the southwest of the house to slow rainwater down and
redirect runoff towards vegetated areas. In-ground timber steps will provide safe access down the slope, and will prevent
erosion from foot traffic in this area.
• Portions of the existing patio and retaining wall extending onto the neighboring property to the east will be removed.
Disturbed areas of the slope on the neighbor’s property will be planted with native vegetation, continuing the
restoration planting from the bank at #44. Areas above the top of the slope will be regraded as necessary and will be
seeded with a fescue seed mix (Cape Cod Lawn).
• Invasive species within the 0- to 100-foot buffer zone to the BVW, including Asiatic bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus),
shrub honeysuckle (Lonicera morrowii/bella), and multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora) will be managed/removed. Poison
ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) and greenbrier (Smilax rotundifolia), an aggressive native species, will also be managed.
• A mix of selective EPA approved herbicide treatment and hand removal will be used to manage invasive/aggressive
vegetation. All vegetation debris will be removed from the site and brought to an off-site disposal area.
• Follow up invasive species management will be ongoing over the next three growing seasons to ensure proper
management.
• The property will be planted with a total of 184 native shrubs and 2 native trees (see Plant Schedule for details).
Groundcover between shrubs will be plugged with marginal wood fern (Drypoteris marginalis), Pennsylvania sedge
(Carex pensylvanica), and teaberry (Gaultheria procumbens).
• Temporary irrigation will be required for the first two to three growing seasons while plants establish. Once plants are
established irrigation will be removed.
