Areas Damaged During 12/18/2023 Storm
Areas of Significant Damage:
~600 feet northeast of ‘S’ curve
~950 feet southwest of ‘S’ curve
Areas of Concern:
Only access road to island
Families that live year-round – elderly, with health concerns
Fire/EMS future access at risk if road erodes further
Northern dune crest:
10 to 11 feet NAVD88,
width between 20 and 40 feet
Southern dune crest:
7 feet NAVD88,
width between 16 and 35 feet

Sandbags At Most Vulnerable Section:
~150 sandbags – 1 cubic yard each (northeast section)
Environmental Safeguards:
Join/secure each sandbag in line – minimizes risk of bag failure and release of damaged materials into environment
Sand will be compatible with existing sand on site
WHG and F&O will provide construction oversight
Allan Pierson – GIHA will monitor bags for failure daily (once in place)
