B) WORK INCLUDED: 1)THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE, INSTALL, PIPE, DUCT, AND WIRE, AS REQUIRED, THE HVAC SYSTEMS DESCRIBED IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS AND SHOWN OR DESCRIBED IN THE DRAWINGS TO DELIVER A COMPLETE, FUNCTIONAL, AND CODE COMPLIANT MECHANICAL SYSTEM INSTALLATION. C) CONTRACT DOCUMENTS: 1)THE SPECIFICATIONS AND DRAWINGS ARE INTENDED TO BE COMPLEMENTARY. WORK CALLED FOR IN EITHER IS BINDING AS THOUGH CALLED FOR IN BOTH. 2) THESE SPECIFICATIONS INCLUDE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL WORK REPRESENTED ON DRAWINGS. NOT ALL SYSTEMS OR SYSTEM COMPONENTS DESCRIBED IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS ARE NECESSARILY INCLUDED AS A PART OF THIS PROJECT. 3) DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC IN NATURE AND DO NOT NECESSARILY INDICATE EVERY REQUIRED OFFSET, TRANSITION, FITTING, OR ITEM REQUIRED. LIKEWISE, SPECIFICATIONS MAY NOT DESCRIBE EACH AND EVERY DETAIL CONCERNING WORK TO BE DONE AND MATERIALS TO BE FURNISHED. THIS STRUCTURING SHALL NOT CONTROL THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR IN DIVIDING THE WORK AMONG TRADE SUBCONTRACTORS OR IN ESTABLISHING THE EXTENT OF THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED BY ANY TRADE. REFER TO GENERAL CONDITIONS. 7) IN THE EVENT OF A DISCOVERED DISCREPANCY OR AMBIGUITY, IT SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER IN A TIMELY FASHION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT PROCEED WITH RELATED WORK WITHOUT A WRITTEN CLARIFICATION FROM THE ENGINEER. D) RELATED DOCUMENTS: 1)THE GENERAL PROVISIONS OF THE CONTRACT, INCLUDING GENERAL AND SUPPLEMENTAL GENERAL CONDITIONS OF THE CONTRACT AND DIVISION 1 SPECIFICATION SECTIONS PROVIDED BY THE ARCHITECT, AND ALL OTHER DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS PROVIDED AS A PART OF THIS PROJECT, APPLY TO THIS DIVISION 23 AND TO ALL CONTRACTORS, SUBCONTRACTORS, OR OTHER PERSONS SUPPLYING MATERIALS AND/OR LABOR, ENTERING INTO THE PROJECT SITE AND/OR PREMISES, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. E) CODES: 1)THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE BUILDING CODE (780 CMR — NINTH EDITION), THE 2015 INTERNATIONAL MECHANICAL CODE (IMC), 2015 INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE (IBC), 2018 INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE (IECC) ARE THE GOVERNING CODES FOR ALL HVAC WORK. OTHER CODES OR STANDARDS REFERENCED WITHIN THE ABOVE LISTED CODES SHALL BE CONSIDERED A PART OF THE CODE REQUIREMENTS TO THE PRESCRIBED EXTENT OF EACH SUCH REFERENCE. WHERE DIFFERENCES OCCUR BETWEEN PROVISIONS OF THE CODE AND THE REFERENCED STANDARDS, THE PROVISIONS OF THE CODE SHALL APPLY. 2) EXCEPT WHERE SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBED OTHERWISE IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS, ALL COMPONENTS ALLOWED WITHIN THE ABOVE REFERENCED CODES SHALL BE ALLOWED AS A PART OF THE WORK. 3) IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF ALL GOVERNING CODES, ORDINANCES AND REGULATIONS AS THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED BY THE AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION. F) PERMITS, FEES AND REGULATIONS: 1)THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING AND PAYING FOR HVAC PERMITS TAXES CO NNECTION AN D INSPECTION FEES AS REQUIRED FOR THE COMPLETE INSTALLATION OF THE HVAC SYSTEM. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE TO THE OWNER ALL CERTIFICATES OF INSPECTION ISSUED BY THE JURISDICTION. G) SITE INSPECTION: 1)PRIOR TO BEGINNING WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REVIEW THE COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS PACKAGE AND VISIT THE SITE TO EXAMINE EXISTING CONDITIONS THAT WILL BE ENCOUNTERED DURING THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK. THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER SHALL BE NOTIFIED OF ANY DISCREPANCIES OR CONFLICTS IDENTIFIED. H) COORDINATION: 1)THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WORK WITH ALL OTHER TRADES AS REQUIRED THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE PROJECT IN ORDER TO AVOID CONFLICTS AND PROMOTE THE SUCCESSFUL PROGRESSION OF WORK BY ALL TRADES. ANY WORK REQUIRING REMOVAL AND REINSTALLATION DUE TO THE LACK OF COORDINATION SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER. I) DELIVERY AND STORAGE OF MATERIALS: 1)PROMPTLY INSPECT SHIPMENTS TO VERIFY THAT MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT ARE UNDAMAGED AND COMPLY WITH PROJECT REQUIREMENTS. 2) PROTECT MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT FROM PHYSICAL DAMAGE, CONSTRUCTION DIRT, WATER, AND THE ELEMENTS FROM TIME OF SHIPMENT TO TIME OF INSTALLATION. DO NOT STORE MATERIALS DIRECTLY ON GRADE. 3) DUCTWORK AND FITTINGS SHALL HAVE ENDS COVERED WITH PLASTIC AT ALL TIMES. J)RECORD DOCUMENTS: 1)DURING THE PROGRESS OF WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN AN ACCURATE RECORD OF ALL CHANGES MADE IN THE HVAC INSTALLATION FROM THE LAYOUT AND MATERIALS CONTAINED IN THE APPROVED DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS. 2) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PREPARE RECORD DOCUMENTS SHOWING THE AS —BUILT ARRANGEMENTS OF SYSTEMS INSTALLED. THE ENGINEER'S AUTOCAD FILES WILL BE PROVIDED AT NO COST TO THE CONTRACTOR FOR USE. RECORD DOCUMENTS SHALL IN CLUDE ALL APPROVED SUBSTITUTIONS, CHANGE ORDERS, AND ACTUAL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS USED IN THE PROJECT. 3) UPON COMPLETION OF WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT RECORD DOCUMENTS TO THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER K) SUBMITTALS: 1)DRAWINGS AND CATALOG CUTS, SHOWING ALL HVAC EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL. 2) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD MEASURE AND CAREFULLY REVIEW ARCHITECTURAL AND STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS AND COORDINATE WITH ALL OTHER TRADES REGARDING THE PROPOSED LOCATIONS FOR NEW EQUIPMENT AND COMPONENTS BEFORE PRODUCING SUBMITTALS. 3) SUBMITTALS AND SHOP DRAWINGS SHALL BE LABELED WITH EQUIPMEN T TAGS IDE NTICAL TO THOSE LIST ED OR SCHEDULED IN CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS. 4) SUBMITTALS SHALL BE CLEARLY MARKED TO IDENTIFY THE SPECIFIC MODEL NUMBER, PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS, OPTIONS, AND ACCESSORIES FOR THE ITEM(S) BEING SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW. GENERAL PRODUCT SUBMITTALS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED AND WILL BE RETURNED TO THE CONTRACTOR FOR REVISION AND RESUBMISSION. 5) SUBMITTAL FILE NAMES SHALL INCLUDE SUBMITTAL NUMBER AND REVISION NUMBER OR OTHER UNIQUE IDENTIFIER. 6) NO ITEMS SHALL BE PURCHASED OR ORDERED BEFORE APPROVAL IS GIVEN BY THE ENGINEER IN WRITING. L)OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL: 1)PRIOR TO SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION OF WORK AND OWNER TRAINING, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PREPARE A DIGITAL PDF AND TWO (2) BOUND COPIES OF THE OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL. DIGITAL COPIES SHALL BE SENT TO THE ARCHITECT, AND ENGINEER. BOUND COPIES WITH DIGITAL COPY ON THUMB DRIVE SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE OWNER. 2) AT A MINIMUM, THE 0&M MANUAL SHALL CONTAIN A DETAILED TABLE OF CONTENTS, CONTRACTOR AND SUPPLIER CONTACT INFORMATION, FINAL APPROVED SUBMITTALS, EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE MANUALS, START—UP PROCEDURES, MANUFACTURER GUARANTEES AND WARRANTY INFORMATION, EQUIPMENT START—UP REPORTS, TEST AND BALANCE REPORT, PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE, AND FINAL SEQUENCES OF OPERATION. M) OWNER TRAINING: 1)THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE OWNER WITH TRAINING FOR THE PROPER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF FINAL SYSTEMS INSTALLED. 2) CONTENTS OF THE O&M MANUAL SHALL BE REVIEWED DURING OWNER TRAINING. � N) GUARANTEE: DIVISION 25 - HVAC CONTROLS AND SEQUENCES OF OPERATION I) GENERAL A) REFER TO SPECIFICATION DIVISION 23 - HVAC SPECIFICATIONS, ESPECIALLY GENERAL FOR WORK INCLUDED, QUALITY ASSURANCE AND RELATED DOCUMENTS. B) PROVIDE A COMPLETE ELECTRIC/ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEM TO ACCOMPLISH ALL CONTROL SEQUENCES AS DESCRIBED BELOW. C) ALL LINE AND LOW VOLTAGE CONTROL WIRING, TRANSFORMERS, DISCONNECTS, ETC REQUIRED FOR THE CONTROL SYSTEMS THAT IS NOT SHOWN ON THE ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTROLS CONTRACTOR (HENCEFORTH CALLED "THE CONTRACTOR"). 1)LINE VOLTAGE POWER FROM CIRCUIT BREAKERS IN ELECTRICAL PANELS TO CONTROL TRANSFORMERS OR CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE INSTALLED BY THE CONTRACTOR. 2) COMPLY WITH DIVISION 26 REQUIREMENTS, 3) CONNECT VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVES (VFD) AND DUCT & AREA SMOKE DETECTORS (FURNISHED BY OTHERS) INTO CONTROL CIRCUITS TO ACCOMPLISH THE SEQUENCES OF OPERATION. II)PRODUCTS A) PROVIDE CONTROL PRODUCTS (IF NOT FACTORY PROVIDED BY HVAC EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER) INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, CONTROL DAMPERS & VALVES, THERMOSTATS, TIMECLOCKS, SENSORS, RELAYS, CONTROLLERS, AND OTHER COMPONENTS AS REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE INSTALLATION. B) CONTROL DAMPERS SHALL BE LOW LEAKAGE DAMPERS WITH BLADE AND EDGE SEALS. CLASS 1 WITH LEAKAGE OF LESS THAN 4 CFM/SQFT AT 1.0"W.G. AND 8 CFM/SQFT AT 4.0"W.G. C) CONTROL VALVES SHALL BE SELECTED FOR FLUID TYPE, TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE CLASS WHICH MATCH PIPING MATERIALS AND END CONNECTIONS. CONTROL VALVES MUST CLOSE OFF AGAINST MAXIMUM SYSTEM PRESSURE. D) DAMPER AND VALVE ACTUATORS SHALL BE ELECTRIC, SIZED TO SMOOTHLY OPERATE DAMPER OR VALVE WITH ADEQUATE TORQUE FOR TIGHT SHUTOFF AGAINST MAXIMUM 1)THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GUARANTEE ALL WORK AND EQUIPMENT FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR FOLLOWING THE DATE OF ACCEPTANCE. WHERE GUARANTEES PROVIDED BY EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS FOR PRODUCTS INSTALLED BY THE CONTRACTOR EXCEED ONE (1) YEAR, GUARANTEES PROVIDED BY THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS SHALL ALSO BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR BEYOND ONE (1) YEAR. 2) ANY FAULTS DUE TO DEFECTIVE OR IMPROPER MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, OR WORKMANSHIP THAT DEVELOP WITHIN THE GUARANTEE PERIOD SHALL BE CORRECTED WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS OF WRITTEN NOTIFICATION FROM THE OWNER BY THE CONTRACTOR AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONTRACTOR, INCLUDING FOR DAMAGE CAUSED BY FAULT TO OTHER AREAS OR SYSTEMS. IF CONTRACTOR DOES NOT COMPLY, THE OWNER MAY HAVE WORK CORRECTED AND CHARGE ALL SUCH WORK TO THE CONTRACTOR. 3) THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH THE OWNER WITH ALL MANUFACTURER'S GUARANTEES OR WARRANTIES IN THE O&M MANUAL. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED, PROVIDE VALVES OF SAME SIZE AS UPSTREAM PIPE SIZE. VALVE STEM EXTENSIONS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR INSULATED PIPE. 10) THERMOMETERS: PROVIDE DIRECT MOUNT THERMOMETERS 9" ADJUSTABLE ANGLE TYPE, ALUMINUM CASE, ACRYLIC LENS, ORGANIC SPIRIT FILL OR SOLAR TYPE, SUITABLE FOR SERVICE REQUIRED. SELECT RANGE SUCH THAT NORMAL FLUID TEMPERATURES FALL WITHIN THE MIDDLE THIRD OF THE DISPLAY. ACCURACY OF THERMOMETERS SHALL BE PLUS OR MINUS 1 PERCENT FULL SCALE. SELECT RANGE SUCH THAT NORMAL FLUID PRESSURES FALL WITHIN THE MIDDLE THIRD OF THE DISPLAY. ACCURACY OF PRESSURE GAUGES SHALL BE PLUS OR MINUS 1 PERCENT FULL SCALE. PROVIDE AN AIR VENT AT ALL HIGH POINTS AND A DRAIN VALVE AT ALL LOW POINTS. 3) CUT ALL HOLES OF SUFFICIENT SIZE AND HANG ALL PIPE SO THAT THERE WILL BE NO COPPER OR STEEL TO METAL CONTACT AND RESULTANT NOISE DURING PIPE EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION. PROVIDE EXPANSION LOOPS WITH ROLLERS, GUIDES AND ANCHORS WHERE STRAIGHT RUNS OF PIPE EXCEED 100 FEET. 4) INSTALL VALVES WITH STEMS UPRIGHT OR HORIZONTAL, NOT INVERTED. C) HVAC USE DURING CONSTRUCTION: 1)THE HVAC EQUIPMENT MAY NOT BE USED FOR TEMPORARY HEAT DURING CONSTRUCTION. THE HVAC EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT BE STARTED AND TESTED UNTIL ALL CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL OF CREATING AIR BORNE PARTICULATES THAT COULD BE DRAWN INTO THE HVAC EQUIPMENT AND DUCTWORK SYSTEMS HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
