Good afternoon Magdalena and Commissioners, Our shellfish biologists reviewed the dewatering plan with the AOOC of the South Shore Drive sewer pumping station. Dewatering discharges would be pumped to an 8,000 gallon capacity settling tanked equipped with a baffle prior to discharging into the ocean.Shellfish habitat in an approved shellfishing area will be altered by the placement of the discharge pipes. To minimize siltation,MA DMF recommends that the discharge is allowed ample time to allow for settling prior to discharging into the ocean.Beyond these points,MA DMF has no further recommendations for sequencing, timing,or methods that would further avoid or minimize impacts to marine resources at this time. Approximately how much water does the team anticipate to experience/expect to discharge during this construction phase? 2. What is the minimum amount of time the water will be allowed in the frac tank? 3. Will the discharge pause if the currently approved shellfish growing area fails two consecutive water quality tests? I can't speak for the Conservation Commission but is there any way possible that the Shellfish Biologist would have a chance to comment by today? The Contractor is scheduled to start work as soon as this amendment request is approved, original start date was Tuesday after Labor Day. If the amendment request is not approved at tonite's public hearing then the next hearing is Sept. 19th which would delay the start of construction significantly. 2 I originally thought that the shellfish biologist would review the proposed discharge under the WM-15 Permit but MassDEP told the Contractor that a WM-15 permit is not required. Since the proposed discharge locations are within approved shellfishing areas, our shellfish biologists would appreciate the opportunity to review and comment on the plan. Will you be able to accept comments submitted early next week?
