Shellfishing is the surveyor’s full time occupation, and he has been shellfishing on Cape Cod
since 1983

SITE LOCATION: 2 Buttercup Lane So. Yarmouth, MA
DATE: 5/31/24
TIDE: Coming, low tide 2:00 pm
WEATHER: 65 degrees, clear
SITE CONDITIONS
The site consists of a steep vegetated bank down to MHW. There are remnants of an existing
dock. There is a sandy beach from MHW to MLW with marsh grass present. This area has a
low velocity tidal flush. There is a blanket (6”) of coarse seaweed covering the fairly firm
bottom. A modest quahog population was noted from the 50’ mark extending out to the 120’
mark.
No eelgrass was present on this site.
TECHNIQUE
63 approx. 3’X3’ sampling plots were established at 10’ increments from MHW to the 120’
mark. A standard quahog rake lined with ½” mesh was used for all sampling plots.
