Hazardous Materials
Overall Result: Pass
Overall Remarks:
POOL PUMP ROOM BY HOUSEKEEPING-no materials stored-dry chemical
container moved to other side of pool pump room during inspection.
HOUSEKEEPING-cleaner mixing stations (2) both have manufacturer’s plate
indicating ASSE 1055B back flow prevention-spray bottles are labeled for
material contained.
LAUNDRY UNIT-commercial laundry products in 5-gallon pails -use caution on
stacking -
POOL PUMP ROOM BY LAUNDRY-liquid chlorine containers on concrete floor,
dry chemicals elevated off of floor on wooden pallets. No acid stored.
SAFETY DATA SHEETS (SDS)-on file in laundry-housekeeping area and
maintenance shop.
PAINT BRUSHES-painting is contracted-paint used by staff if for touch-up
work. Paint brushes should not be washed in sinks, nor should paint be washed
onto the ground. Brushes used with latex should be cleaned in a bucket with
minimal water. Absorb the water in the trash.
OUTDOOR POOL SHED-liquid chlorine on floor - dry chemicals are elevated off
of floor on wooden pallets-an empty muriatic acid container was in the trash,
but is not usually stored. If any acid is stored in the future, place it as far away
from the dry chemicals and liquid chlorine as possible and place it inside a
suitable plastic bucket as secondary containment. Old format Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) in the Outdoor Pool Shed should be archived and
retained with new-format SDS obtained.
EAST BLOCK SHED-5-gallon pails of latex paint stored. Protect this paint from
freezing which can ruin the material and also possibly crack the plastic
containers causing leaks. Move inside for winter or dispose of properly.
PAINT DISPOSAL- unwanted latex paint can be properly disposed by drying it
out with clay-based absorbent or cat litter and then putting in the trash. If cat
litter is purchased don’t use it on oil or gas spills because it may contain
combustible material such as saw dust.
OUTSIDE-No materials outside.
