Hi Brittany: I hope the spring is treating you well. Attached are some pictures of the beach work progress from this weekend. Basically all the work work, grading, nourishment, berm, and planting work are complete at this time. The 30 yrds of nourishment was placed, the berm was created and planted, with an area left for access to the beach. The nourishment was set with grade stakes to establish the slope. We did decide to extend the berm all the way across the site for two reasons; first, if the lower area to the south didn't have a berm, we felt that it would concentrate storm wave energy and flood waters and perhaps work against the goals of the berm, which was to provide a measured and metered form of beach nourishment. But the berm also creates a high spot with low grades behind, and our fear was that when it flooded, retreating water would concentrate in the lower area without the berm and erode too quickly, whereas before the flooding waters would simply retreat over the beach area. That won't happen now because of the berm. The second reason is drainage; the area to the south where the stones are along the property line was always the low spot; and we want the water to ebb and flow through that area; again so it doesn't erode the berm too quickly. I hope you agree that the beach project overall, looks great; I am really happy with the outcome. The rest of the grading and plantings are part of the house project.
