I certify that I understand the following requirements regarding any changes that may
be required for this project:
In accordance with paragraph 2(a) of section 1.03(General Procedures) of the OKH 972
CMR Rules and Regulations: Only minor changes may be approved by the Committee
without the filing of a new application and a new hearing. Minor changes include
alterations that can be done without a detrimental impact on the overall appearance of
the project such as altering a single window or door change or a minor change of
colors. All minor changes by amendment will require the local Committee's or its
designee's approval.
All changes to previously OKH approved plans require notification to and approval
from the local OKH Committee. Change requests must be submitted to the Committee
in writing on the appropriate request form, which may be obtained from the OKH office.
All change approvals must be obtained before incorporating the change into the
project.
If the change has been implemented prior to receipt of OKH approval, a Minor Change
approval or Certificate of Appropriateness application for the revised plans is still
required and will result in a doubled filing fee for the appropriate category of work.
Failure to comply with the above statements will result in the Building Department
issuing a stop -work order or delaying the issuance of an Occupancy Permit or final
inspection approval.

Dear Lisa,
I am writing to the Old Kings Highway Historic District in support of our new neighbor
Kelly McGuill. My wife Carole and I live at the house next door, 195 Center Street. We have
lived there for the past 9 years and have always been friendly with our neighbors from the
Hilliards to now Kelly. The last few years while both Mr. & Mrs. Hilliard experienced failing
health, I mowed their back field for them to keep their property looking nice. I know Kelly
has been trying to remodel the house as it has been many years with declining
maintenance and needs a lot of work. The bigger of the issues involves replacing a leaking
roof and I heard there was some issues about replacing the current wooden roof with
asphalt shingles. I totally understand using asphalt as the cost is roughly 3-4 times more
for wood shingles especially now with the current tariff situation. I can't pretend to know
the OKHHDC rule book on replacing roofs, but I have been driving from Yarmouthport to
Hyannis for work, always along Rte. 6A, for the last 40 years. Until last night I have never
even tried to look to see how many of the Historic homes along the way have wood and
how many have asphalt. But the truth is the vast majority are asphalt, with maybe 10-12
having wood shingle roofs. I am including some photos of this house from the early 1900's
where it was painted white so we have no objections as neighbors if Kelly wants to paint her
house white. Not trying to be a nosey neighbor I assure you. I n fact we have a very tight
group of neighbors that all look out for and help each other out. We also understand how
important it is to maintain Historic homes and never allow non -conforming, non- Historic
homes to be built where they do not belong. I hope the Committee will reconsider some of
their objections and allow the work to be completed as requested. I know some of us
neighbors plan to be there for the next meeting. Thanks you for your time.

1 am writing to support my neighbor Kelly McGuili's application 25-AO23 to replace roof,
siding, trim, deck boards, doors, windows and deck posts and paint her house located at
189 Center St. I have been familiar with this property my entire life as my grandparents
owned the abutting home at 201 Center St., and I own my home and live at 221 Center St.
It is heartening to see the property purchased by Ms. McGuill with her clear love for this
historic home that has been a fixture in my life for many years.
I fully support Ms. McGuill's plan as presented in her application to improve the property,
which has over the past many years fallen into disrepair. 1 understand there is concern
about the roof shingles, gutters, and the paint color.
First, regarding roof shingles, my grandfather who lived next door told me that the home
had asphalt shingles from some point in the 1940s until Granny Chalke bought the property
from the Eldridge's in 1968. Wood shingles are not common because they are not practical
roofing material in this area. In addition, the roof shingles are barely visible from the street
due to the trees that have grown in front of the house over the past 50 years. The roof
material has no historic value since the modern asphalt shingle makes an excellent
alternative with similar appearance. Replacing wood shakes with asphalt roofing is a
common accepted practice in the historic district.
Second, replacing wood gutters with aluminum or fiberglass gutters that mimic the Boston
pattern ogee of a wood gutter is a common practice in our historic district. The difference
cannot be discerned from the street (or in most cases from the ground looking up). Having
had to spend many summers maintaining the wooden gutters at my grandparents' house
next door at 201 Center St I can personally attest that there is no aesthetic advantage that
outweighs the practical performance of the non -wood alternatives available.
Finally, regarding paint color, when the propertywas purchased by Hugh Hilliard from Mr.
Granville Chalke in 1985 the home was white with dark green shutters and accents. In
addition, Section 7 of the Old Kings Highway Bulletin March 1, 2022 based on the 1973
regulations notes "The exterior color of any building structure within the District may be
changed to white without the filing of an application for, or the issuance of, a certificate of
appropriateness..." Furthermore, the FAQ's on the site (O(d King's Highway Historic District.
i Town of Yarmouth, MA - Official Wobsite) say: "Painting anything white does not require
approval. Changing from a color to white does not require approval"
