Hi Brittany, Thanks for the image and area. I agree. Confirming.. this is the list for the eastern(larger) area (1265 SF) Following our OOC, Here is my proposed plant list with species, quantity, and size for the tee side. These plants should be conservation grade quality: 1. Sweet Fern, Comptonia peregrina, 5, 2-3', 1 gal. 2. Beach Plum, Prunus maritima, 3, 2-3', 1 gal. 3. Northern Bayberry, Myrica pensylvanica, 7, 2-3', 1 gal. 4. Staghorn sumac, Rhus typhina, 2, 2-3', 1 gal. 5. Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus virginiana, 2, 3-4', 2 gal. Planted closer to existing tree line. If we "shrub it up", my least favorite term, any more than I've proposed it will look out of place with the sparsly shrubed area adjacent on both sides. The area now is mostly herbaceous. Even if some of the species are lost this areas will still be heavily covered in a few years. On the tee side (675 SF) , I've doubled the sweet fern which with a mature spread of an average of 6' (4-8') covers 400 SF. These plants will grow into both sides of the restored path area. The use of one species will blend the maintained turf area with the existing wetland area. Herbaceous material will soften the transition further. Sweet Fern, Comptonia peregrina, 14, 2-3', 1 gal. Seed with salt tolerant mix. I’ve outlined the approximate areas in the attached map. If they are swapped, restoration of the larger area would require at least 2x the plants that you proposed for the original 540 sf area. I would accept groupings of large shrubs on either edge with sparser shrubs plus seed mix in the middle for only the western area, with the eastern area planted with more standard coverage. Hi Brittany, Thanks for the reply. It is planted with shrubs. The total areas are flipped it seems. The path area on the tee side seems larger than the green side thus the difference in shrub numbers. See below. The seashells on the green side are spread into the maintained turf area. Thanks! ________________________________ From: DiRienzo, Brittany <BDiRienzo@yarmouth.ma.us <mailto:BDiRienzo@yarmouth.ma.us> > Sent: Monday, May 12, 2025 9:24:59 AM To: tim gardner-gerrish.com <tim@gardner-gerrish.com <mailto:tim@gardner-gerrish.com> > Cc: Gilmore, Scott <SGilmore@yarmouth.ma.us <mailto:SGilmore@yarmouth.ma.us> >; Ron Ferraiuolo <rferr@sumcoeco.com <mailto:rferr@sumcoeco.com> >; Michael Toohill <mtoohill@Coneco.com <mailto:mtoohill@Coneco.com> > Subject: RE: Barr River Bridge Path Removal Planting Hello, The 1650 square foot area was proposed to be revegetated with shrubs per the attached document, if you are interested in proposing a revision to the approved strategy then it would need to be reviewed by the conservation commission at a scheduled meeting. Thanks for the clarification on OOC requirements.. Here is my proposed plant list with species, quantity, and size for the green side. As the tee side, these plants should be conservation grade quality: Sweet Fern, Comptonia peregrina, 7, 2-3', 1 gal. Seed with salt tolerant mix. Thanks for your review.. Hi Brittany, I hope all is well. I'm writing to obtain your approval on the Bass River bridge replacement project cart path naturalization. Below is an aerial view of the sand cart path that will be removed from use and will not be needed now that the bridge is being completed. One section is on the tee side of the creek. The other is on the green side. Please see aerial view below. The tee side area is approximately 540 SF (90 'x no less than 6' wide). Following our OOC, Here is my proposed plant list with species, quantity, and size for the tee side. These plants should be conservation grade quality: 1. Sweet Fern, Comptonia peregrina, 5, 2-3', 1 gal. 2. Beach Plum, Prunus maritima, 3, 2-3', 1 gal. 3. Northern Bayberry, Myrica pensylvanica, 7, 2-3', 1 gal. 4. Staghorn sumac, Rhus typhina, 2, 2-3', 1 gal. 5. Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus virginiana, 2, 3-4', 2 gal. Planted closer to existing tree line. All planted in groupings, not individually except the cedar. Several shrubs should be focused on each end of the path to reinforce the path closure. The area will also be seeded with New England Wetland Plants' salt tolerant seed mix. Approximately (about 540 square feet) on the tee side of the creek. The area on the green side of the creek will be eliminated and restored to mown turf at the request of the course staff. The area surrounding is mown as it is an "in play" area on the course. The staff would like to see this area with a typcial rough grass seed mix or sod as part of other course improvement projects. The bridge schedule got delayed from this winter so the course staff will not have time to perform the installation. We are hoping to have the contractor, Sumco, do the installation while on site in the next week or so. I look forward to hearing from you.
