Dear SelectBoard:
In addition to the bad news on the high levels of Nitrates and PFAS from drinking water
Well 11,the Yarmouth 2024 Drinking Water Quality Report also contains very
disturbing information regarding the Yarmouth Source Water Assessment Program(
SWAP).
The SWAP report,referenced in the Annual Quality report,ostensibly"assesses the
susceptibility of our public water supplies." The Yarmouth SWAP report is fatally
deficient! It is outdated,having been formulated on April 6, 2004 and documents that
Yarmouth does not have a"well protection plan"nor does it have a"well protection
committee". See page 9 of the SWAP. Other towns on Cape Cod and SE Mass. have
such plans and committees. If any town on Cape Cod needed and still needs these plans
or committees, it is Yarmouth. Even after the residents of Yarmouth voted in the Town
Meeting of 2011 to protect wells 4,5, 10 and 11 our Water Commissioners did not
implement any such plans or committees. This is simply a dereliction of duty. Clearly,
the health of the community is not a priority.
