Mass DEP Waterways License No. 15038 is a valid Waterways License for the bridge
maintenance. Three relevant sheets of the License and a locus sheet are included with the RDA.
The RDA addresses the interests of the wetland interests.
Coastal Wetland Resources in the immediate vicinity of the activity are: Salt Marsh, Coastal
Bank, Land Containing Shellfish, Land Under the Ocean; Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flow.
The project to perform minor preventative maintenance to the Great Island Rd. bridge
abutments require handwork to place patched – in mortar to point stone gaps and insert /
replace some chinking stones. Replacing small shims on 3 pile caps is also recommended.
The work occurs within the tidal creek zone but does not require machinery in the tidelands or
marsh and can be considered on a scale where foot traffic and hand work are the primary
activities.
Some hoisting of supplies for temporary placement to assist in the repair work will occur from
the roadway above. Temporary cordoning of the specific work zone may be performed using
portable curtains or sacks.
No alteration of the coastal wetland resource areas will occur – only minor physical effects to
the abutment surfaces. Allowing for tides the work is expected to last several days.
