Structure fire response, E45 First due states tire showing side B of the buitding and requests working fire assignment. Car 51 on scene has command. Singte story home, approximatety 30 x 20, tire on side b, beginning to extend inlo the attic. On scene report was there might be someone inside the home. E45 made a quick knock down on the exterior fire, quick primary search done simuttaneousty. E43 on scene, pulled a second line in case needed for the interior. Car 52 provided the 360, no basement access noted, secured lhe gas at lhe meler. Fire knocked down, extensive overhaul. A53 on [ocation, crew packed up and sent in lo assist with secondary search and overhaut. Access gained to the attic, extensive overhaul. A55 was EMS, Hyannis Engine was RlT. Attsearches negative, extensive overhaut needed. Fire investigation team did initiat interview, and request was made for response by state fire marshat. 1 patient evatuated and signed refusal. Chaptain Soute on tocation, worked with resident to secure arrangements with the Red Cross. Fire under control in approximatety '10 minutes. OverhauI and investigation was initialed. Released Hyannis Engine and Brewster Ambutance From the scene. Electrical inspector and bui[ding department on [ocation. Command lerminated, fire investigation and Fire watch on scene to assist Fire marshal, car 52 has lhe scene. Conducted 360 of single story wood frame ranch approximatety 800 sq ft. Fire showing side B coming trom crawl space area and extending up the side of lhe building towards the peak. Gas secured on side D. Located rear attached shed area with brown smoke pushing from door way secured wilh pad [ock. Forced entry and examined shed area containing waler heater, lawn mowers and smattcan of gas, etectric wat[ mounted heater. NO fire impingement in shed areajust heat and smoke traveting the crawl space lowards this area. Fire attack prevented extension. No victims or hazards found on 360. C-52 stayed with L! Bearse and state entities. C- 52 last to ctear scene. Turned property over to homeowner who was there to secure property for the night and coming back in the morning. FIRE INVESTIGATION- Led by Lt. Bearse I arrived on scene as lhe fire was extinguished, I approached command (C-1) and requested I begin the lnvestigation. I started with an outside 360 walk around and photos. lwas requested by command to quickty photo the suspected area of origin and interior rooms, before additionaI overhautwas done. I continued my outside-ln approach the the tire area. After photos were taken, I was lotd of an occupant that was home at the time of the fire, her name is Ashteigh Johnson. (508-827-0853) I spoke to Ashteigh and she totd me that she was in the living room watching TV and eating a Turkey sandwich, when she smeIted smoke, but thought nothing of it, as neighbors had burned outside before. After 2-3 minutes she noticed dark black smoke in the kitchen area at the ceiting. Ashleigh did not mention any smoke atarms sounding. Alihough as I was taking Photos, the smoke alarm was sounding, overhauI crews removed the atarms and advised me as such. Ashteigh atso said that she was at the house to retrieve items, as she no tonger tives there. Her Husband is lhe tenant, and they are having marital problems. Ashleigh does smoke cigarettes, buI had no! smoked at the house today. I examined the area of origin, taking phoEos as crews overhauled the outside watt, and crawtspace. I was unabte to determine any cause. Therefore I requested the assistance of the Mass state police assigned to the Fire Marshalts office. Trooper Pike ca[[ed me by phone, I exptained the circumstances, and he agreed to assist me, as weltas request a Arson K-9, and State potice crime photo team. A,n ATF agent lhat was training with the lroopers atso responded as a courtesy. Troopers arrived on scene around 1740hrs. We conlinued the investigation and the K-9 Dog did not hit on any potentiaI acceterants. The Tenant arrived, Anico Andrade ( 508-815-9865) we asked if there were any issues with Ashteigh being at the house that day, Anico stated that the sptit up is amicable and Ashteigh usuatty is at the house when he is working, but she does not sleep there. He did not think she woutd have had anything to do with the tire. Anico does smoke cigarettes'and usuatty smokes oulside at the rear of the house. I asked Anico if they had any repair or renovation work done to the house recentty, which he reptied "No". The Owner oF the property arrived, Michael Heaty "Gus" ( 508-776-3766) Gus stated that the tenants had been there 4 years and he has had no issues- I spoke to the neighbor "Dan" who lives at 25 Motty Rd. He stated he had called 9-1-1 when he discovered the outside tire from his porch. He ran up to the house to make sure everyone was out and he saw Ashteigh stitt inside franticatty on her phone and grabbing belongings, he strongtyurged her,to vacate the house, which she did. The neighbor also stated that Ashteagh 9ot into her car and lert arter Eaking a video of the tire on her phone. Another neighbor, "Frank" lives at 10 Motty Rd and he approached me and stated lhat he hasseen them use a space healer in the crawl space using an extension cord, to hetp keep the pipesfrom freezing. we found no evidence of a space heater or extension cord in ouiinves[igaiiSr; -- The Tenant Anico sEated he had used a space heater in the past, bu! not an extension c-ord, heplugged it in down in the crawtspace. we tound no evidence ofany electricat re.eptacies in ihecrawl space. After an extensive investigation and being timited to enter the crawl space safety. Theinvestigators have come to the conctusion that the fire appears accidental, and'we aie unabte todetermine a heat source or first ilem ignited.
