Dear Karoline Viana,
The Building Department issued a permit for this address on April 2, 2025, to construct an open-air canopy over
a patio. While conducting an inspection it was noted that HVAC ducting was installed above the ceiling. The
Stretch Energy Code (225 CMR 23.00) requires any nonconditioned space that is altered to become conditioned
shall comply with Section C502 of the 2021 IECC.
C502.2 Change in space conditioning. Any nonconditioned or low-energy space that is altered to become
conditioned space shall be required to comply with Section C502.
Please submit construction documents required by Section C103 to show compliance with 225 CMR 23.00.
You may appeal this letter to the Building Code Appeals Board in accordance with M.G.L. c. 143 §100, within
45 days of this notice.
