E48 Lt. assumed command and E48 crew sfetched a , 3/4" line to the C side of the structure and began extinguishmenl. Command ordered E45 upon anival to attain a water supply with the assistance of E48 Chauffar. Car 4 afrived on scene and assumed mmmand E48 crew with the assistance of E45 & TL41 crews overhauled th6 deck and opened up the B/C comer to expoGe any chaning- The fire was confin€d to the deck with som6 minor struclural damsge to the BiC lowBr comar. There was no smoka or water damage to tho interior of th€ rBsidenc€. Th€ dsck siza was 22'x20' with signmcant damage to about 2/3 of the deck. E48 crew confrmed lhat the fire vvas out with the aid of the TlC. Crews wst down the araa snd picked up tools, equiPment and hose lines. E48 crew before leaving metered the residencs finding 0 change in readings on th€ first and second floors. Therg wers low levels of CO in the basemont al '18 ppm w6ll within permissible limit8. E48 crew sat up the residenfs fan in the basement to ventilate. The resident chos€ to stay at h6r tathods hous€ for the night even lhough the hous€ was d6ar€d for occupancy. Upon speaking with the resident, she stated that her ftiend and herself were smoking a joint prior to her friend leaving. The friond left the back deck leaving by the B side of the residence. The most significant chaning was in that s€m€ localion. The resident stated thst her friend may have throlyn the ioint in that general area. The r€sident w€nt to bed and about a half hour later heard some crackling and went downstairs to find heavy smoke and fre coming from the deck. The resident svacuat€d her family and animals and avraited the fire deparlment response. Lasi update on 08nOl2O25 at O2i38i10 by ENRIGHT, KEVIN 12t13 Narratives CAR_s / Car 5 FIRE INVESTIGATION Lt. Matt Bearse I was not available lo investigate this fre until Aug 21, 2025, at 0900 hrs. I met the homeowner Ryan and his fianc6 Jocelyn at the house and oblained written permission to access the Eoperty to investilat6 the fir6 that occunBd Tuesday night 8/19/25. I was able to speak with Jocelyn who statod to m€ that she aM hor friend Mary were out on the deck in the area of origin just prior to the fire starting. They were smoking a hand rollod cigarotte. Jocelyn remembers Mary discarding the cEaratta by "dead headlng'the buming ember and Mary retained the unbum€d end and discarded the unbumed end in the trash. The ar6a ot origin matches the area the cigarefre was put out. I took photos of the back yard and d6ck area. Jocelyn statad to rn€ that they were not using any caMles or torches or lantems that night. They have no lighting or extension cords in that area of the dec* that was bumed. They could not rocall if any containers of lamp oil or any typa of liquid fusls w6re in tha area of origin. Th6y did say a Hue rocycle bin was in th6 araa, and a cooler. I did notics ths dock gate was of vinyl matedal and also a Mnyl tonucanopy typ€ sfuctur€ was folded up and partially burned in the comer of the deck, in the area of origin. Bas€d on the findings and interview, the fire appars accidental at this tim6, the only ignition source seems to ba a improp€rly discardsd cigarefte. -end- Lt.
