RE: PD use of MMS for training
Unfortunately, opportunities to train in large, complex, and realistic environments are limited.
There are few suitable locations available to the department that provide the layout, structure,
and variety of settings necessary for comprehensive tactical and operational exercises. The
former MMS school meets those requirements.
The MMS building and grounds affords officers the opportunity to train in an environment that
closely mirrors potential real -world scenarios. The hallways, classrooms, stairwells, and
common areas present realistic challengesthat cannot be replicated in open fields, parking lots,
or other generic spaces. Training in this setting enables officers to:
• Hone tactical response skills in a realistic and controlled environment.
Practice rapid decision -making in complex and dynamic surroundings.
Enhance coordination, communication, and teamwork during critical incidents.
The ability to conduct training in such a setting is a valuable resource that directly contributes
to our readiness, effectiveness, and public safety. It is essential that we continue to make full
and efficient use of the MMS facility and grounds for ongoing professional development and
preparedness.
Respectfully,
Chief Lennon
