I apologize for not being able to attend the meeting on September 11. 1 did watch the meeting and
would like to provide this memo to address some of the questions raised by the Board, as well as to
request approval for outside law enforcement personnel to continue using the building for training
purposes.
As I previously stated, opportunities to train in realistic environments such as the former Mattacheese
Middle School are extremely limited. For many years, the school has served as an excellent training site
for local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. It has hosted numerous successful training
sessions for the Yarmouth Police Department, surrounding police agencies, the Municipal Police Training
Committee, regional tactical and K9 units, and federal agencies.
All training is conducted in a safe and non -disruptive manner, with careful consideration for the
surrounding neighborhood, the ME Small School, and other Town departments that use the building.
Importantly, no training involves the use of live ammunition. Requests to use the school are scheduled
and coordinated directly through the Police Department to ensure safety and prevent any conflicts.
I respectfully request that the Board amend the vote taken at the September 11 meeting and continue
to allow the school to be used for law enforcement training by outside agencies, under the supervision
of the Yarmouth Police Department.
