BOARD OF APPEALS
This letter is in reference to the vote taken by the Zoning Board on September 11, 2025. I apologize
for not being in attendance, I wasn't aware of the implications of the vote on our training
opportunities at the Mattacheese School.
In a similar fashion to the Police, fire departments have been taking advantage of the school
property to conduct realistic training scenarios across multiple disciplines. Last year Yarmouth was
able to host a class through the Department of Fire Services that allowed almost 50 firefighters and
police officers from across the state to train together in Active Shooter response.
Allowing Yarmouth to host these classes typically guarantees seats in classes that are hard to enroll
in across the state, offering a significant advantage to our members. All training is scheduled in
coordination with Yarmouth Police and the Department of Public works, and we ensure the property
is taken care of and left clean without disruption to the surrounding neighborhood.
I respectfully request the Board amend the vote to allow the school to be used for fire training by
outside public safety agencies under the supervision of the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments.
