Project Description
The project was approved for invasive species management and ecological restoration. The approved
work is divided and managed within 3 zones; Zone 1 includes management of approximately
7,300 sqft of dense Phragmites, Zone 2 includes management of approximately 5,200 sqft of sporadic
Phragmites within marsh vegetation, Zone 3 includes management of approximately 10,100 sqft of
sporadic Phragmites within mixed invasive and native upland vegetation. The resource areas present
include salt marsh, bordering vegetated wetland, land subject to coastal storm flowage and associated
buffer zones.
Project Activities Completed during Assessment Period
August 19, 2025 – Assessment and treatment of Phragmites
September 25, 2025 – Site visit to assess invasive species management
October 1, 2025 – Assessment and treatment of Phragmites
Assessment of Current Site Conditions
Effective treatment methods executed during regular maintenance visits have been effective in
controlling Phragmites (Phragmites australis) populations in all zones of the project area. At the time
of this assessment, the percentage of control for Phragmites is at or above 99%. Continued
monitoring of these treatment zones has shown that little to no Phragmites have regrown from
remaining stalks, or seed in the soil seed bank. Ongoing observations and minimal maintenance
should suffice in preventing the regrowth of any Phragmites in these areas.
Anticipated Activities to be Completed Next Monitoring Period
• Continue maintenance and monitoring visits to control Phragmites.
