Re: Petition 5204, Daniel and Rebecca Girard, 43 Webster Rd., West Yarmouth, MA
Hello,
Regarding the petition above, I am a close abutter, three houses down at 55 Webster Rd.,
West Yarmouth. My family has been vacationing at this address for about 27 years. I
have three adult children and three grandchildren, now also adults.
The neighborhood has always been a quiet one, with several long term owners. It has not
become a "beach zone", with associated noise, disruption, rowdyness, etc.. This is
surprisingly true for Webster Road which is so close to the water.
I feel a pool, especially one of this size, will be a negative addition to our neighborhood. I
fear it will invite the problems noted above. It also results in diminished green space.
I also do not appreciate the trend of property owners not respecting the zoning laws,
thinking they can do as they wish. Here in Boston, my primary residence, the zoning
board bends over backwards to accommodate appeals, primarily to benefit from increased
property taxes. As for changing the character of a neighborhood, well; that is secondary.
Too often, we end up with "mcmansions" with little yard space.
Therefore, my family is against granting this variance.
Regards,
Helen Maravelis
