During the inspection,several items were identified as needing correction.A list of the items discussed follows: 1.Vertical reinforcement shall be provided at 32-inches on center and extend the full height of the walls.Splices,where required,shall have a minimum lap splice length of 24 inches with vertical bars extending out of the footing. 2.Corner reinforcement shall consist of 2 tt4 reinforcement bars bent at90 degrees and provide a minimum lap splice of 24 inches with both k4 horizontal bond beam reinforcement bars in both directions.Add corner reinforcement as discussed herein to the upper 3 bond beams.The corners of the bond beam directly above the foundation(first course of CMU)shall remain as is.Provide reinforcement ties to ensure sections of reinforcement do not move during grouting.See figure 1 for example of improper corner reinforcement and figure 2 for example location requiring ties. 3.Lap splice lengths within the bond beams shall be a minimum of 24 inches and reinforcement used within the bond beams shall be as long as possible(i.e.the number of splices in the bond beams shall be minimized).See figure 3 for example of inadequate lap splice length. 4.Cleanout windows shall be provided in accordance with TMS 602 requirements when grout lift heights exceed 5 ft 4in.First lift shall be to the bottom of the lowest bond beam that is more than 5ft-4in above bottom of grout lift(TMS 602 Specification 3.5 Grout Placement—Section 3.5 D 1.b.).The locations where CMU block extends full height without openings will require cleanouts at 32 inches on center.Provide a cleanout window in the second course of block to avoid cutting into the first course bond beam.See figure 4 for typical CMU wall which requires cleznouts. 5.One additional vertical N5 bar shall be provided on each side of door openings(i.e.first two cells of block on each side of door openings shall have one full height 05 vertical bar). These items were discussed with representatives from Robert B.Our and B&B Commercial Masonry. Mr.Jones left the site at 1045.
