Dear Committee Members:
I have recently opened the Yarmouth Medical Center for walk-in medical
care, located on Station Avenue in South Yarmouth. This walk-in
medical facility provides a broad spectrum of ambulatory services,
including full lab facilities and a soon to be completed X-ray suite.
It is my understanding that I need to appear before the Board for
approval to run several components of this center.
From the laboratory point of view, I have presented to members from
the Health Department a list of chemicals we will be stocking and
disposing in the septic system. Also provided has been material
regarding the X-ray developing unit. To my knowledge, this unit
discharges water from one hose which would go into the septic system.
While other units across the Cape allow the developer to be discharged
into the septic, our plan is to have this carted off along with the
fixer to a chemical disposal company in the Boston area. This will
be done during monthly servicing by Alliance Imaging Co. At the
time of the periodic servicing, I believe a unit of the machine may
need to be rinsed in the sink which would present trace elements of
silver into the septic system. I understand that this is a common
practice of all the X-ray maintenance companies. In comparison with
other office labs and medical centers across the Cape, we are per-
forming no unusual tests, nor are we dealing with any uncommon chemicals
or radiation.
I look forward to meeting with you to discuss the above matters.
Very truly yours,
Kenneth B. Boyd, M.D.
