Dear lVembers of the Senate Committee,
I am writing to respectfully urge you to oppose any ban on natural kratom powder and instead focus
legislative efforts on prohibiting synthetic compounds such as 7 hydroxymitragynine and other
chemically altered derivatives.
Natural kratom leaf has been legally sold in the United States for more than two decades. For the vast
majority of that time, it has not created the type of public concern we are seeing today. The recent
issues being discussed are largely tied to synthetic and highly concentrated compounds, not
traditional kratom powder made from the natural leaf of the Mitragyna speciosa tree.
It is essential that policy decisions follow the science. Natural kratom powder is a botanical product
with a long history of traditional use. Synthetic isolates and laboratory altered compounds are
fundamentally different in strength, effect, and risk profile. Lumping them together under one broad
prohibition ignores these critical distinctions and risks punishing responsible consumers who rely on
the natu ral product.
lf the goal is public safety, the solution is clear. Ban 7 OH and other synthetic or chemically modified
compounds. Prohibit adulterated and highly concentrated products that do not reflect traditional leaf
use. At the same time, protect access to natural kratom powder and implement reasonable regulationssuch as age restrictions, labeling standards, and product testing requirements.
we must address the real source of concern without eliminating a natural botanical that many adultsuse responsibly. I respectfully ask you to protect natural kratom powder and direct enforcementtoward synthetic compounds where the actual risk exists.
