I would like to reiterate NECSEMA's opposition to the NFG proposal currently bcfore the board ofhealth. It is important to note that these restrictions are not state issued but are being pushed by advocacy groups such as the Mass. Association of Health Boards and other advocates. This proposal will cause instant harm to the value oflocal businesses, infringe on adults'rights to purchase legal products, and will have no impact on youth tobacco usage rates, as the products are already restricted to those over 21 years of age. Ifyou have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Additionally, I would be happy to give a presentation on NFG to the board ofhealth, or select board, as advocates in favor ofthe proposal have been invited to speak on the topic already. Thank you. I respectfully submit testimony in opposition to the Nicotine Free Generatiotl proposal being considered by the board ofhealth tonight. Selling tobacco to anyone under 2l is already illegal in Massachusetts, and flavored tobacco is banned, yet the Board of Health is considering further restrictions including the "Nicotine Free Generation". Recently, members of the Ashland Board of Health emphatically declined to pursuc an NFG policy, and we would encourage you to do the same. I also would recommend this article from Boston Magazine, which has a good summary of both sides of the issue: lg /,www.boston gazine.cominovs/2025/07l29lnicotinc-lree-massachusetts/ I have attached additional written testimony and will plan to be available remotely tonight.
