Notes:
The client requested a visual inspection of structural steel framing for a prefabricated metal building. The
structure is an addition to an existing prefabricated building and the intended purpose of the addition is to be
vehicle storage or a garage.
The anchor bolts for the new columns between lines A & C from 1 to 5 are complete and acceptable. Anchor
bolts have been run all the way down to the top of the column baseplate and tightened. No missing, damaged or
otherwise deficient anchors were found.
The beam to column connections at the roof level were visually and physically inspected. As per the notes on NBS
drawings, bolted connections are to be brought to the snug tight condition. This was accomplished by using an
electric impact wrench and or by hand with a spud wrench and a short pipe. Connections at this level are mostly
complete and acceptable with these one half and three quarter inch in the snug tight condition as required.
These connections were observed to have very little or no gaps between the bolt faying surfaces. Some
connections such as at C/2, C/1 were observed to have spaces exceeding 3/16 of an inch under the faying
surfaces. The contractor was requested to further tighten these connections to bring these steel into firm contact.
Also the beam to column connection at C/2 was found to be missing one bolt and two bolts at B/2 were
observed to be loose or untightened. The contractor was advised of these connections and he stated that each
would be corrected as soon as possible.
The end walls or front wall do not require diagonal bracing but the roof level does require cable bracing between
lines 2 & 3 and A & C. The contractor has not yet installed this component due to work in progress on the roof
panels. This critical component will be installed once the roof panels are installed and the structure is fully
plumbed.

No areas of concern were observed and work was observed to be in compliance with the drawings. No
deficiencies other than the previously mentioned incomplete items were observed during today’s inspection.
