Help Protect Our Shorelines
Own a small boat or watercraft?
Here’s what you can do to help protect our shorelines
Beach grass, salt marsh and other coastal vegetation help build and stabilize
our coastal shorelines, protecting upland areas from extreme weather events.
Though hardy, coastal plants are extremely vulnerable to trampling.
To protect our nature-based storm-damage protection, never store
personal property on coastal vegetation or on the beach.

Storing boats, chairs, and floats in coastal vegetation and on the beach
is not only harmful to marsh, dune, and bank stability,
but it also damages fragile wildlife habitat.
Do your part to ensure the health of our shorelines.
Store all boating and other personal effects in an
upland location outside of resource areas.
Did You Know?
Coastal beaches, tidal flats,
and salt marshes are protected
by state and local wetland
protection regulations. Activity
within these areas, and their
buffer zones, are regulated to
best protect these resources
and the services they provide.
