Thanks for the guidance.
If you have visited the stair site you’ll note that the stairs are close to grade. I am proposing to keep
that circumstance because it is so stable. One precaution I like on all my bank stairs is a simple
plank, 2X 4 or 2 X 6 placed uphill of certain post sets. Good question about clearance and it would
only be where a board would fit. The vegetation is thick throughout the stair location and we don’[t
want to affect that too much. Might be only a couple of sets of posts.
All it does besides a little bracing is prevent unrestrained runoff from affecting the zone beneath the
stair until it fully recovers.
The sand fence is completely optional if approved. Seaward side of the seawall there is a dune. The
current stair has open posts with evidence of localized wind scour of the dune on the side opposite
the counterfort wall. ( Hyannis side) The fence would simply be tied on posts running parallel to the
stair run to slow the wind.

I’ve reviewed this NOI in more depth, and I just have a couple questions/comments:
Can you provide more detail on the “backstop” mentioned in note 14? Are you
proposing these 2-inch planks at all the posts, or just where there’s clearance?
And by clearance, do you mean more than 2 inches below the stringer?
Can you also clarify the location and purpose of the proposed sand fence?

Would it be running parallel to the concrete retaining wall but on the other side
of the stairs? From the photos it looks like the retaining wall is doing a good job
collecting sand already.
It’s already too late to get any new content to the Commissioners, but at least you can
be prepared if these questions come up.
