HomeMy WebLinkAboutmemo regarding combo detectors 2024Yarmouth Fire Department 96 Old Main Street South Yarmouth, MA 02664 (s08)3e8-2212 From To: RE: Date: Lt. Chris McMahon Joanne Sykes 159 Highbank Road 12131t2024 Ms. Sykes Per your request, today I reviewed the above address for compliance with the updated smoke alarm rules required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Tenant met me at the door and showed me the residence. I found the detector coverage to be adequate for Massachusetts code applicable at the time of construction. She was able to present me with a copy of the letter explaining the requirements. In order to comply with those requirements, you would need to add a smoke alarm (1O-year sealed) to each ofthe two (2) bedrooms on the first floor. The existing smoke alarm in the hallway would cover the majority of the first floor. An additional detector would be required in the back sunroom/music room to fulfill the requirement to add detection to each of the common spaces. This detector would also serve the kitchen and would prevent nuisance alarms as there is not the required clearance of 10 feet from a cooking appliance within the kitchen, proper. The basement requires no additional smoke or carbon monoxide detection due 1o the lack of legal bedrooms. The existing combination detector satisfies the needed coverage. Carbon monoxide detection is adequate on each floor with the existing two (2) detectors in the hallway and the living room, which contains a "gas log" fireplace. Very Respectfully, Lt. Chris McMahon IR o Memorandum
