Actng Deputy Huck,
As you requested, I am writing this email for my involvement with the incident at 115 Route 28, The
Windrift Motel. Which occurred on January 30, 2023.
Amb. 57 responded for a welfare check at the above address. The caller was the son of the resident at
the windrift cottage 7.
A-57 cleared the scene
Dispatch contacted me at my office, giving me the message to update the CAD for the current Windrift
owners, at which time i looked in the property file and found the transmittal sheet with a contact name
and number. I called a Mr. Patel and advised him that we needed to gain access to Cottage 7 and Mr.
Patel stated he could be at the property in 10 minutes.
I returned to the property and called YPD, asking for a police officer to be present when we gained entry
into the cottage. Officer Wenberg arrived a short time later, as we waited for Mr. Patel to return with the
keys, we spoke to neighbors and looked into the windows of the cottage, using my flashlight i was able
to see a small object under the bed, which I believed to be a foot of a person, I asked officer Wenberg to
confirm what I was seeing and at that time I asked Officer Wenberg to radio her dispatch and request an
ambulance. Officer Wenberg and I attempted to gain access on the side door, using a Halligan tool, but
with the dead bolt locked we could not force entry. Officer Wenberg then attempted to open several
windows, finding 2 windows in the front unlocked. We opened the windows and made contact with the
resident verbally. The resident was speaking clearly stating she was on the floor next to the bed. The
ambulance arrived and the crew climbed in window unlocked door, so we could all gain entry and
render care to the single occupant. Mr. Patel arrived and the keys he had, did not work on the door locks
for cottage 7. lwill follow up with owners to have proper keys made and a fire department lock box
insta lled.
The crew asked dispatch if the owner was available with a key to gain access, but the owner information
in the CAD was outdated and no contact was found for that property. At which time the crew requested
Fire Prevention to follow up on updating the contact information in the CAD.
I advised dispatch, they reminded me that Amb. 57 had cleared the scene, so I responded there in Car
59 to meet the owners Dad, Mr. Patel.
When I arrived on scene, Mr. Patel did not have a key and could not access the office area. Mr Patel and
lattempted knocking on the doors and Mr. Patel stated he had the residents phone number, which he
called, and no one answered. Mr. Patel stated he would need to get the office key from his son in
Dennis, Harth Patel (owner)
I cleared the scene and went to station 3 and spoke to the crew who had responded to the cottage
earlier. I also called the son of the resident, Todd, who was the reporting party, I asked Todd for his
mom's name and date of birth, and I called CCH to see if they had any patients admitted with that name.
CCH stated they did not.
I purposely did not lock door handle, because lwasn't sure if resident had her keys, I cleared the scene.
The person was transported to CCH for further evaluation. I called the son, Todd, back and updated him
that we were able to make contact and that his mom was being transported. He did not ask for any
details, and no details were given on her medical condition.
Respectf u lly Submitted,
Lt. Matthew Bearse
