Erl8 Lt. assumed command and E48 crew sfetched a I U4' lin6 to the C side of the struc,ture and began extinguishment- Command ordered E45 upon anival to attain a water supply with the assistance of E48 Chauffer. Car 4 anived on scen€ and assumed command Etl8 crew with the a8sistance of E45 & TL41 crews overhauled lhe deck and opened up the B/C comer to expGe any chardng. The fire was confned to the deck with soma minor stuclural dam€g€ to tho BiC lower comer. There was no smoka or water damage to ths int€rior of the rBsidancs. Cret/rs wet down the area and picked up tools, equiptnent and hoso lines. Erl8 crew b€bre leaving m€terod the rosidence finding 0 change in rB€dings on the first and sacond floors- There were lo\iv levels of CO in the basem€nt at 18 ppm well within p€rmissible limits. E48 crew set up tho r€sidents fan in the bas€ment to vontilats. ThB rasident cfios€ to stay at her fathefs hous€ for the n(lht even though the hous€ was dearod for occupancy. Upon speaking with the rBsidenl, she statad thst hor friend and herself were smoking a joint prior to her frisnd leaving. The ftiend left the back dock leaving by the B sida of the rasidence. The mosl significant chaning was in that s€me location. Th€ rasident stated that her lriend may have thrown the ioint in that general area. The resident went to bed and about a hatf hour later heard some crackling and wont downstairs to fnd heavy smoke and fire coming from the d6ck. The resident evacuated her family and animals and awaited th6 fire deparlment response. 12t13 .ratiYes CAR 5/Car5 FIRE INVESTIGATION Lt. Matt Bearse I was not available to investigats this fire until Aug 21, 2025, at 0900 hrs. I met the homeowner Ryan and his fiance Jocelyn at the house and obtained written permission to access the property to investigate the tire that occured Tuesday night 8/19i25. I was able to sp€ak with Jocelyn who stated to me that she and her friend Mary w6rs out on the deck in the area of origin just prior to the fire starting. They were smoking a hand rolled cigarette. Jocelyn remembers Mary discarding the cigarette by "dead heading" the buming ember and Mary retained the unbumed end and discarded the unbumed end in the trash. Tha area of origin matches the area the cigarefte was put out. I took photos of th6 back yad and deck area. Jocelyn stated to me that they were not using any c€ndles or torches or lantems that night. They have no lighting or exension cords in that area of the deck that was bumed. They could not ,ecall if any containers of lamp oil or any type of liquid tuels ware in the area of origin. They did say a bluB rBcycle bin was in the arsa, and a cooler. I did notics the deck gata was of vinyl material and also a vinyl tenucanopy type structure was folded up and partially bumed in the comer of the deck, in the area of origin. Based on the findings and interview, the fire appears accidental at this time, the only ignition source seems to be a improperly discarded cigarette. -end- Lt.
