The top of the fence Is level the whole length, Due to the natural topography, the height of the fence Increases as the ground slopes down, beginning closest to the street at a height of four fast, and Increasing to eight feet at the for end/comer of the plot (there is a natural valley in the back of the property). It seems like we received misinformation when checked in with the Town of Yarmouth, prior to installing the posts in November in 2025. When we inquired about building a fence, we were told we didn't need a permit or permission as long as we followed the guidelines (we were also told we could go up to eight feet). We did believe we were adhering to guidelines when we started, and wish to have our house and property in harmony with the local aesthetic and neighborhood. We would like to install a privacy fence along the two sides of our property, we have completed one side and have started the other side, we have now stopped the work on the second side pending approval. Our fence is made of pressure -treated wood, which will gray with time to match historic Cape houses. On the left side (facing our house from the front) our fence is set back 20 feet from the street. It is 4 feet tall in the front, then gradually slopes down to eight feet with the topography at the back of the lot line where there is a natural valley. The top of the fence is level in its entire length, which is why we have the difference in height. We chose a simple style of horizontal boards that we have seen around Cape Cod, and one we felt would blend into the local landscape and character. We would like to include in our proposal the right side as well, which will begin 15 feet back from the street, and will not exceed six feet in height as there is no topography variation on that side. &MM011 { .JUL 1 3 702fi 26- A083 Old King's Highway Historic District We have not hired a contractor for the fence and have built it ourselves. We took great care in building it and made sure the finished side faces outwards. Our son is almost two, and we have found for safety purposes the fence has been great! We also have more privacy now on the side we've completed, and our nextdoor neighbors at 32 Freeman have mentioned they are happy with it as well. It has also reduced barking from our neighbors' dogs as now they cannot see us in the yard, which will be especially helpful when we get a dog too. We hope you will approve our project and in the future, we will make sure we apply first before starting a project. We have plans to remove the vinyl siding in the next few years and return the house to its original clapboard or cedar shingles. Ian and Leonie Littie-Lex are the property owners at 25 Freeman Road. am a strong supporter of historic preservation and greatly appreciate the Commission's mission to preserve the beauty and character of Cape Cod. In this case, however, the fence is neither obtrusive nor unsightly. It is also much needed for this young family with an energetic toddler who loves to explore, as it provides important safety and privacy. In addition, the neighbors' dogs, which had been frequent barkers, have quieted down significantly since the fence was installed. Our neighborhood was built primarily in the 1960s and 1970s, and Freeman Road is a dead-end street. Ian and Leonie have been wonderful additions to our neighborhood;r and we are fortunate to have them as neighbors. Respectfully, AC4_0, UtAjL_ ffin 'Mm WADO JUL 1 :i 2026 Old King's Highway Historic District OLD KINGS HIGHWAY HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Regarding Ian Butler and Leonie Little-Lex application for approval for an existing fence at 25 Freeman Road. The fence is not intrusive nor very visible from the road and will become less so over time as it ages and blends into the surrounding area. In addition, they plan to cover the fence with vines and climbing roses which sounds beautiful and is made possible because of the way it was built. More important, this a safety measure for the family. They have a young boy who needs to be able to be outside safely. Without the fence they are opened to all sides including the street. This fence provides privacy which I fully understand as one who lives with a part of my house available for anyone to look into, 1 understand the importance of this. It also buffers sounds coming from the neighborhood and camp behind them. Your mission is to preserve, protect and develop the historical, culture and archeological assets of Yarmouth. I have no idea where this mission includes a lovely fence built on a dead-end street of houses constructed in the 1970's. I do not object to this fence because it provides privacy, creates a safe place to raise a child and is an asset to our neighborhood. Ruth Piscitelli, 30 Freeman Road, which is across the street and one up from 25 Freeman so I have a view of Ian and Leonie's house. - =ORB JUL 13 7026 Old. King's Highway "' 'Historic District Jul 11, 2026 Town of Yarmouth Old King's Highway Historic District Committee 1146 Route 28 S. Yarmouth, MA 02664 To the Members of the Committee, am writing in response to the notice regarding the upcoming committee meeting scheduled for July 13, 2026, specifically concerning agenda item # 26-A083. This item pertains to the installation of a fence at 25 Freeman Road, owned by Ian Butler and Leonie Little-Lex. As the owner of the abutting property at 31 Freeman Road, where I have resided for the past ten years, I wish to express my enthusiastic support for their project. Ian and Leonie have been exemplary neighbors throughout this process. Prior to initiating construction, they courteously consulted me regarding the proposed design and placement of the fence to ensure it would not negatively impact my property. The chosen design is highly aesthetic and complements the neighborhood well. Furthermore, as they have a young child and intend to get a dog in the future, the fence serves as an important and practical safety barrier in our residential area. Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information. Sincerely, Kerri Robinson 31 Freeman Rd. -JUL 1 3 7026 keslimiamom6bgmail.com 1508-971-5077 Old King's Highway Historic District I r 6/13/2026 Yarmouth OKH Historic Committee RE: #26-A083 25 Freeman Road As we understand, the purpose of the District as it was originally intended was to protect the integrity of the District for its residents who reside within. The applicants should have been informed before purchasing their property what's appropriate and what's not under certain guidelines. Had it not been for a person who had business in the area they would have executed the entire fence without committee approval. We were told that Mr. Butler wanted the fence finished before we arrive for the summer. Why? No recourse? Just acceptance of the inevitable. This type of structure is not indigenous to the neighborhood. Something more aesthetically pleasing is in order not a monstrous fortress barricade that will destroy our beautiful woodland views and foster an isolationist agenda if approved.
