YPD offcer on palrol discovered a single family rcsidential structure al 27 Bliscott Ave fully involved with fre. FD Notifed and responded. First aniving
apparatus (TL41) Capt. Roupen Baker reported a 20 x 30 single story wood frarne residential slructure fully involved in fre. with exposures on the B and D
skJes. VinalSiding on the D side exposure was melting. Fire attack began with a 2 '1l2" hose line by TL4l crew. Second aniving E 48 crew placed a 1 3/4"
Hose line on the Side D exposure. Hydrant hookup was was delayed as the first hydrant was frozen, delaying a waler supply. E 48 Driver backed down the
street to a hydrant at the intersection Route 28 and Bliscott Ave aod layed Water Supply Hose Line to the frre. A eleclic power line going to the residence
bumed th.ough at the building and fellonto street and was draped across E48. N Star was called lo secure the po\ /er to the street. E45 and E43 crews
where used for manpov/er. Dennis FD E 115 crew was assigned as Rapid lnle.vention Team- Red Cross canteen was called to assisl with rehab. Lt./
lnspector Bearse was on scene for fre invesligation. Fire was extinguished within 30 minutes with personnel remaining on scene for ove raul and
investigation.

INVESTIGATION REPORT ENTERED BY LT. MATT BEARSE
I arived on scene approx 25 minutes into the incidenl, most ofthe fire was knocked down upon my anival. I spoke to the firsl ariving comparry offcer Capt.
Baker, whom stated the water supply was delayed due to frozen hydranl on the streel. initial apparatus used tank water to protecl exposure on "d" side.
I spoke to the Police ojfcer on scene who reported lhe Fire, he staled he could smell a heavy odor of smoke in the a.ea and eventually found the house
engulfed in llames, his description. included that the fre had broken through a wirdow on the B side and was showing through the roo, of the house in ttle
middle ofthe rool The officer kicked in the ftont door, yelling for anyone inside, he was pushed back by the heavy smoke and f,ames.
I spoke lo the neighbors at 31 Bliscott ave. which is the exposure property on the 'd" side. They v€re evacuated by police and fire crews, and wenl across
the street to another neighbor. They stated they were unaware of any problems prior 10 being wakened to evacuate.
I was told lhe Clwner of 27 Bliscottwas the also the owner ofthe Pick up truck in driveway, but did not live their, His name is Mike Mangeau, and he rented
the house lo a Chris Wiegert. I was lold both persons had been called and accounted for, no one should be in house except for the tenanls Dog.
I spoke to the tenant Mike, when he arrived on scene approx t hr afier the initial call. He stated to me he had not been home since 10 am Monday, that he
was concemed for his dog. He stated he had no problems with the Owner and all was in working order in the home. The home was heated by a floor
fumace, fueled by Natural Gas.
Firsl aniving companies reporled Live wires has droped from the house, and Nstar secured power aprox t hr affer inilial call. FF's also had secured the gas
at the meter outsade.
Piclures were taken by me initially doing a 360 walk around of property. Fire crews assisted me in removing debris from around lhe hole in the foor near the
chimney ofthe House, this same hole housed the f,oor heater. lfound the ioor heater in place and could see lhat the gas line was intact to ttle unit. wilh fiex
gas line. During overhaul, the heater unit did fall into basement leaving the floor grate in place.
Based on the depth of char and panem of bum i determined the origin to be in the vichity of the noor heater. Cause undetermined. Fire crews also recovered
the Dog which was deceased and removed the animal using a tarp and placed outside the horne. I contacted the Tenant and informed him of the recovery of
his Dog as well as my inilial lindings oflhe invesligation.
Based on the intormation I have to date, I believe the fre to be accidenlal. origin in lloor area around ioor fumace, cause undete.mined.
