Hi Andrew,
I just wanted to relay to you a couple comments I have on the revised Mayflower Plans that can hopefully be addressed
at the DRC meeting on May 26th.
Assisted Living: The northwest corner of the building includes a fenced in patio area and there is a retaining wall
(varying in height from 1’ to 6.5’) running along the western half of the Buck Island Road elevation. I would like a
better understanding of the type of fencing and façade on the outside of the retaining wall and how this relates to
the elevation. Also elevation 8 shows a lot of exposed foundation and they may wish to extend the shingles down.
Memory Care Comments: The original site plan had the front of the building and drop off area facing Route 28 with
7 parking spaces in front for visitors, which was hidden with a landscaped berm. There had been concerns
expressed at that time about the close proximity of the visitor entrance to the intersection of Route 28/Town Brook
Road, but it was indicated that the facility Staff would be using the Evergreen Road entrance and there is typically
minimal visitors (unfortunately) to a memory care facility. The new plan has the front of the building facing west
and has 16 parking spaces in the front area with no in‐lot trees, but including the landscaped berm. It would seem
there is enough space to locate more parking west of the building to avoid the need for double loaded parking in the
front yard, even though the entrance to Town Brook will need to remain for emergency vehicle access. Staff should
still be directed to use the Evergreen Road entrance. There is also a proposed fenced in area for a generator, cooling
tower and dumpsters facing Town Brook Road. Additional information should be provided on the style and height of
fencing proposed and the height of the equipment. A vegetated screen in this area would also help to hide the
mechanical equipment (depending on the height of the equipment and the fence).
For both buildings, the side doors are rather plain and we should discuss colors. It would be good if color samples could
be brought to the DRC meeting.
Please find attached the Agenda for the May 26th Meeting at 4PM in Room B.
See you then and have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Kathy
