Box 1517 East Dennis, MA 02641 Tel 508-385-1445 boboerrvCacaaecod.net August 19, 2026 Town of Yarmouth Conservation Commission 1146 Route 28 South Yarmouth, MA 02664 RE: 206 South Street, South Yarmouth — SE 83 — 2471— Deck Plank Spacing Plan Change To the Conservation Commission Administrator, We are requesting plan changes that permits approximately 14% more sky light to pass through the pier deck and eliminate the use of wood preservative treatment on 460 s.f. of pier deck. The one quarter inch plank space reduction request is linked to two other plan changes but is effectively a one quarter inch change request. With the job being on -going, the applicant was hoping the three changes, with positive environmental impact improvements compared with the approved plan, might be authorized by the staff with a follow-up plan change vote by the Commission if needed. Three changes to the plan are: 1. The applicant requests that the pier deck plank thickness be 1 inch thick instead of the 1.5-inch specified on the plan. The proposed wood is much harder / stronger than preservative treated, fast growing yellow pine planks. 2. The applicant requests that the pier deck planks be spaced at three quarter inch. The 1-inch plank space regulation that appears to be related to minimizing shade makes no mention of plank width or thickness. The %= in. thickness reduction and '/, in. space reduction for an equal plank width allow 14% more direct sky light beneath the deck than the approved deck. (see the attached sketch) 3. The applicant's preference for the one -inch -thick deck plank does not allow for the 460 s.f. pier deck to be of marine treatment CCA wood preservative or any preservative. The applicant is asking the Administrator or Commission to consider these changes and reach a conclusion consistent with our evaluation that no significant harm will come from these proposed changes. Thank you for your careful consideration of the request. If it is at all possible for the Administrator to reason through the effective one quarter inch plank space reduction with the collateral changes to avoid the public hearing process it will be appreciated., Sincerely, Cape Cog' eering, Inc.
