Car 59 on location tirst, reports heavy fire from garage on D side of the property and initlalty takes command. Arrived on location and requested a working fire assignment. With Car 59 in command, did a 360 and took the position of safety. Fire had extended into structure attached lo the garage, and heat and smoke is visible from the eaves and attic ven[s. Command had directed Tower 41 to position on side A, stretched a 2 1/2 line and attacked the fire. Tower crew also working to secure a waler supply with hydrant right at the driveway. Next due crews were tasked wilh a second line to attack the fire from the breezeway door, and to vent the roof over the breezeway. Car 5l assumed €ommand and requested a second atarm. Car 59joined with other crew members to provid€ more verticaI ventitation on other parfs of the roof. Dennis engine crew was assigned RIT on side A. Bulk rf the fire knocked down with the 2 1/2, crews entered the breezeway and overhauted, gained acce ' e ditic by putling ceitings and conlinued wetting down areas oF fire and heat. Utiiiiy companies were calted to the scene to secure 9as and eteclric. Other Yarmouth and mutualaid crews were used for extensive overhautof the garage, breezeway, and attic areas. Car 52 took safety on his arrivat, Chiets from other mutuatdeparlments assisted in supervising crews. Fire under control, exlensive overhaul required. Crews checked at[ areas of the home with thermal imaging camera, inctuding attic areas away From the garage. Once overhaulwas complete, began reteasing companies and ptacing trucks back inlo service. Lt Bearse worked with homeowner to begin the process of tire investigation. Garage and breezway were cleared of any burnt or hot items, valuabtes covered with satvage cover or moved to unaffected areas oF the home. Once crews in service, home turned over to properly owner, who had restoration comPany on scene to secure the home. All units clear, command terminated. Stantey Rd. E45 arrived on scene and was ordered to stretch a second tine to the interior of the house to stop any exlension. E45 crew was atso ordered to vent the roof to see it there was extension to the roof. E45 sptit in to two team 1 Lt Napolitan and FF Foy and team 2 ALt. Enright and Lt McMahon. Team 1 advanced an 1 3/4 hose From the bumper of E45 into the residence extinguishing any visibte tire. Team 2 laddered the roof and cul 2 ventitation openings and observed signiticant charring but no active fire. Findings were relayed to command and team 2 exited the roof. Both teams then returned to E45 decon. and rehab. FIRE INVESTIGATION I arrived along wilh First arriving companies to the reported slruc[ure fire. I assisted with extinguishment activities, then quickly transitioned to Fire investigation. I spoke with the Owners Joaone and Brian Lonq. They were boLh home at lhe time of the fire. Brian stated he had tit the gas gritl outside in the rear oF the garage, to pre heat for cooking. Brian also stated he had used a smal[ pipe to smoke marijuana in lhe garage approximatety 20 minutes prior to discovering the Fire. He keeps lhe pipe and tighler agains! the walt of the garage to the right oF lhe window. Brian stated he got a phone calljust atter tighting lhe grit[ and smoking, [asling '15-20 minules. Brian Feared the gas gritl may have gotten to hot. Joanne spoke to me and stated she had discovered the fire white cooking in the kitchen. She was aterted to the fire by a loud popping noise coming From the garage. Joanne went lo the garage and open the interior door from the breezeway. Joanne stated she could see tlames and btack smoke concentrated in the front hatt of garage Eowards the right side of the window. she quickty ctosed the door and alerted her husband, who was in the living room, they retrieved the famity dog and vacated the home and called 91 l. Joanne was concerned she had teft the stove on in the house, I assured her we had secured the gas to the home and the oven was no longer on. Joanne could nol find any reason for the fire. I spoke to Brian after firefighters were Finished overhauling the garage and house. I asked Brian if any batteries were charging in the garage, Brian stated no. Brian had not used any gas powered equipment that day. No candles or incense type items were being used. No electricaI outtels were found on the outside wall. lt was difficult Eo deLermine the exact area of origin, based on depih char on wood i was looking a! the outside watl near the window as the most tikety area of origin. Due to amounts of gasotine storage, o[her ftammabte liquids the burn patterns can be grealty attected. Making the exact origin and cause hard to determine. The tikety area being the area of where Brian was smoking. Tower 41 takes the hydrant in front of the residence and pults a 21/2" tine m the truck and advanced on the Fire. we were abte to knock most the Fire down From the window lhat was on side D of the house. Once most the fire was controtted we moved to lhe rear of the house and opened the rear garage door entered the garage and put the rest of the fire out. we were abte lo get lots of water into the attic From the garage also fire is mostly out at lhis lime and over haul is started. Tower 41 crew was then moved to rehab for a white, white other crews did over haul. ON arrival we were able to make entry into the house breeze way by cutting plywood on puE up by restoration company. Looking down the atlic we were abte to see lots of smoke movlng around changing direction in the wind. Made a ptan to remove the burnt insutation that was about '15 ft across and seemed to stop mid way through the attic. As we were readying to do that Capt Huck was abte to get inLo the house and found a watt that was very hot over 600deg F. We then made entry to the house and pulted the wall apart apptying water with the 1 3/4 hose. Continued to remove sheetrock and insutalion untitwe were abte to find clean non charred wood and ctean unburnt insutation. Once over haul was comptete and insulation we! down we were abte to pick up and teave. Capt. The material affected seemed to be the blow in insutation combined with insutated duct work. I could nol estabtish any other heat source in that area other lhan lhe radiant heat and embers associated with the fire 12 hours prior. The house was locked up secure and unoccupied at the time ot this fire.
