The Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC) has converted this paper record to digital format as part of ongoing projects to scan
records of the Inventory of Historic Assets of the Commonwealth and National Register of Historic Places nominations for
Massachusetts. Efforts are ongoing and not all inventory or National Register records related to this resource may be available in
digital format at this time.
The MACRIS database and scanned files are highly dynamic; new information is added daily and both database records and
related scanned files may be updated as new information is incorporated into MHC files. Users should note that there may be a
considerable lag time between the receipt of new or updated records by MHC and the appearance of related information in
MACRIS. Users should also note that not all source materials for the MACRIS database are made available as scanned images.
Users may consult the records, files and maps available in MHC's public research area at its offices at the State Archives Building,

9. Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above)
This Federal structure dates back to approximately 1790. It is situ—
ated on land that was originally part of the tract granted to William
Hedge in 1643. This, along with the fact that members of the Hedge
family (John and Ruth) are listed as owners of this dwelling on the
1858 and 1880 maps, strongly indicate that the original owner was also
a Hedge. Other sources since then include Levaughney Nickerson, James
Nickerson, Central Club (a community ments club), Richard Hefler, Isaac
H. Thacher, and John Dunbar. The house at one time had three platinum
numbers on the front indicating it was the last stop in Yarmouth that
the coach made to pick up passengers going down Cape. The present
owner, James W. Robertson restored this structure after purchasing it in
1967. He preserved all the old doors, stairways and paneling as well as
replacing one chimney and two fireplaces.
The architebtural style of this house is pure Federal. Details include
a hip roof, double chimneys, six over six windows and a glass fan transom.
There is a fairly new addition (c. 1970) on the South side of the
structure. Coach house corner, as this house is known, is now used as
a proffessional building. It is kept in excellent condition.
